ELECTIONS IN UNITED
STATES AND ENGLAND
WEE MOST ME
Time, Line-Ups and . Results
Were Same Regrouping of
Parties Likeyl
BY CHARLES P. STEWART
Ne-A Service Writer
WASHINGTON, Nov. 11.—Eng
land’s national election and Ana-'
erica’s were only a few days apart.’
The- broad general issues of the
two contests were the same—eon
servatistn versus progressivism.
The lineups were the tame. The
results were the same.
And now, in both countries, there
probably is going to be a regroup
ing of parties. There almost cer
tainly will be onne in England. The
south may, modify developments in
America to some extent. Then
again, it may not.
England has three major parties
—Conservative, Liberal and Labor.
They correspond to Republicans,
Democrats and Progresses.
The Conservative and Libera, par
ties have grown so much alike in re
cent years that many voters de
clared it hard to tell them apart,
except by their official labels
Both Are Conservative
That is, both are conservative.
The Labor party thus ftr has been
more radical than the bulk of the
Progressives. It is an older party,
too, and has had one spell at the
governmental helm, under the pre
miership of Ramsay MacDonald,
definitely a socialist.
The English contesE then, was
three-cornered, Ike the American.
One group in each country was a
strong conservative group.
A second group was a little more
liberal than the first, perhaps, but
not much more. It was nos nearly
so strong as the first one.
The third group was progressive,

Liver Trouble Causes
High Blood Pressure
(Medical science knows that poi
sorious waste in our bodies would
actually cause death in a few days
if not eliminated by Nature’s proc
esses. Because it destroys these
deadly poisons, the liver is our most
important organ—the body’s wonder
ful purifier.
• The liver prevents the formation
of body poisons that cause diseases
of the heart, kidneys, blood vessels
and are chiefly responsible for prema
ture old age.
When the liver becomes weak, the
poisons are sucked up by the blood
and health is broken down. Physi

liberal, radical whatever you
please to call it.
For convenience let's refer to
them as parties A, B and C respec
tively, in both countries.
A had 'its nucleus of “original”
liberals. It drew also from A and
B, those elements which had been
developing liberal tendencies. Eng
land’s A group lost few votes
thus in comparison witr America’s
for generally speaking Eng
land’s conservatism is harder boiled
than America’s. B’s losses to C
were much heavier than A’s. be
cause the B’s were a trifle more
liberal to begin with.
Liberals the Lasers
But B lost also to A, for B’s con
servatives, alarmed by C’s activi-
bile supply. The discovery is puri
fied ox gall.
Get from your druggist a pack
age of Dioxol. Each tablet contains
ten drops of purified ox gall. In
24 hours the poison toxins will be
removed. Your liver will be regu
lated. Blood purification will begin.
Sallow skin will clear. You will feel
so much better you will know you
have found the cause of your ill
health. Dioxol tablets are harmless,
tasteless and cost less than two cents
each.
These genuine ox gall tablets are

“Dioxol.” If any tablet is offered
you under another name, refuse it.
Accept only Dioxol in the original,

ties, anxious to beat the latter as
badly as possible an daware of their
own group’s weakness, decided num
erously to go the who'e hog and
vote just as conservatively as they
knew how.
Thus A and C both profited at
B’s expense.
The English B group’s disaster -
was completer than in America. I
There was no modifying element
whatever in England. In America
the negro question’s influence was 1
to hold the B voters together in the
south, for the most part at least.
Well, it was a victory for con
servatism.
But it wasn’t as much of a vic
tory as mere figures imply. From
the size of A’s majority it might be
inferred that liberalism stands no
chance—ever. But it’s a considera
tion that group C is young even in
England and only an infant in Am
erica. C has life before it.
If the A administration in Eng
land and America give satisfaction
during the terms they are entering
,cn, they may win again, at the next
election, and possibly several times
again.
But sooner or late ric will come
C’s turn.
Liberals in Danger
Liberalism can’t expect to be
actually in offiice more than occa
sionally in any naturallv conserva
tive country, like England or Am
erica, anyway. Conservatism is
bound to be in power the greater
part of the time.
Group B, however, seems to be in
danger of disintegration.
In England, group A. being io of
lice by so big a majority. Probably
will hang on for several years. By
that time, all signs arc that B will
have disappeared completely, leav
ing only two groups—conservative
and liberal —which is the wav it
ought to be. It means someth'.'g-
