PAGE EIGHT New Cycle One of Real Prosperity BY, LEONARD P. AYRES Vice President the Cleveland Trust »/ Co., Cleveland. * We have just entered a new bus ineßß cycle. And it is extremely significant that it is starting off with the same combinations of conditions that existed at the beginning of the most notable periods of sustained prosperity. It has long been noted that four factors are necessary to produce a period of sustained prosperity in this country. They are: 1. Increasing industrial produc tion after a period of depression. 2. Good agricultural prices. 3. Increasing export demand. 4. Easy credit conditions. And this new cycle is beginning with the old combination of all of them. Specifically the following sum up the prospects for 1925: 1. Interest rates promise to be low but with a rising trend. 2. The major trend of bond and stock prices should be upward, and the final peaks in tl'C'-o markets probably will be established during the year. 3. Building is nearly sure to continue in good volume but with out much prospect of exceeding the rb cords established in 1923 and 1924. Building costs probably will Answer His Call --s> vw/l I ih .WM law mW For Worth-While Gifts You answer it in the right manner when you give him something that he can make good use c ,f—Clothing is the best thing in the wor Id to give a man! Ji w remain firm. 4. Employment is likely to be greater with the predominant trend of wages slightly higher. 5. The cost of living probably will rise moderately. r 6. There promises to"' be st corf siderable expansion in the produc tion of iron and steel, and a conse- quent increase of activity in Great Lakes navigation. 7. Automobile production will probably continue at about the same rate as in 1924. Total produc tion of passenger cars and trucks should approximate 3,609,000. It is probable that 1925 will be a year of recovery, reaching pros perity, with greater production, larger margins of profits, accom panied with more speculation in noth commodities and securities, □riles weathc- conditions prove highly abnormal, 1925 promises to lie a year of increasing business ac celeration, approaching the speed limit and in danger of incurring I the consequent penalties in 1926.
