In the foreground is the Californian Hotel,with the walls sheared off by the tremors of the earth, exposing a cross-section of the bedrooms. Rescue workers may be seen along the street searching the ruins for victims. Thfs picture was rushed to San Francisco by NEA Service cameramen flying in planes and was then transmitted to New York over wires of the American Telephone and Telegraph company., being relayed from there to the Times-Recorder by fast train.
