THE AMERICUS TIMESRECORDER 1 Blanche Payson, Six Fee Six, Believe Women Traffic Cops are More Effective than Men - Sow® x w *»*>- i iRRajHI LOS ANGELES, July H —Here’s a suggestion . from a woman, Mr. Chief-of-Police. Try it on your street corner, and see how it works! It comes from Miss Blanche Pay son, cx-policcwoman of San Fran cisco, now of Los Angeles. “Have women traffic cops,” says she. VThis would be a solution for the congestion problems all the large cities have to face. It woul< work to the advantage of driver and pedestrian alike. • Miss Payson represents six feet and six inches of sturdy W'oman hood. She served as a traffic ’offi cer in San Francisco during the World Fair. She backs up her sug gestions with the following argu ments: “Women do not lose their heads «o easily as men. I _ INDICTMENTS RETURNED IN PICKWICK DISASTER BOSTON, July 11. —A number of secret indictments have been re ' turned by the county grand jury in ' connection with the collapse of the PickwickV’dub building, July 4, in which 44 persons lost their lives. I can’t make friends by giving them I the cold shoulder. ' Even women who like bargains don’t care much for a man whose in come has been reduced. tutorial as men. Consequently, there would be less friction between feminine traffickers and officers. There would be more chivalry. There would be a natural courtesy toward women and more desire to help them make their jobs a success. “The sympathy of other autoists would be with the officer always, whereas today usually the opposite prevails. Women offenders would know that a winsome smile and a vamping manner would not be any excuse for not keeping the law, dor keep them from the just conse quences if they did. "Besides,” she concludes, “there is actual experience upon which to base comparisons. During the San Francisco fair we had a number of women cops and we never had any trouble keeping traffic moving easi ly and without confusion.” LEGAL AD NO. BGI GEORGIA, Sumter County.
