THURSDAY /AFTERNOON, JULY 30, 1925 Her Skull-Cap Glorifies Grandpa Z «w 8 > * J A ? _j£ s / z <J fWX% NEW YORK, July 30. —Perhaps Marjorie Oelrichs, society girl, is going to start propaganda to glori ly grandpa. At any rate, when she .returned from Europe recently she exploited a new type of millinery that shows unmistakably the influ ence of his old black skull cap. It is made of a ribbed fabric not un like jersey, and thus can be pulled on and fit without a wrinkle.. Other style features worthy of your earnest attention are the close fitting boyish coat, the tailored vest of brilliant plaid, the armful oft chain bracelets, the evenvelope bag, the crimson flower and the stubby umbrella. The chain bracelets are said to represent the ancient custom of wearing symbols of love’s bondage. Since so many European vaca tionists are returning with a simi lar get-up, we can only assume it’s the smart thing for all. Sav ing a life comes about as often in the experience of “Buck” McNeill as buying a suit of clothes—per haps oftener. Certainly he makes less fuss over it than many persons do over a new outfit. Clothes don’t cut a great figure with him anyhow, al though when a photographer be seeches he can bedeck himself with enough medals to trim a Christmas tree. “Buck” is dockmaster at the Bat tery, the tip end of Manhattan. The sea wall there is a favorite resort for suicides and quite popular for accidents. The dockmaster has 30 medals for heromism and he can count up* 55 persons whom he has pulled from water graves. His name will lead all the rest on the memorial tablet now being placed in the office of I'ock Com misisoner Cosgrove. 3he tablet if given by a nephew oi the late Tammany chief, Charles ]•'. Murphy, who was a former dock commis sioner. Every yar the name of one honor man ot the service will be inscribed on it. AH of them, however, will be below the name of “Buck” McN ’ill. Use T. R.
