WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON, AUGUST 19, 1925 ty_ MISS ALLEN HOSTESS AT BRIDGE LUNCHEON A beautiful compliment to Miss LeiJA Bell, of Dawson, and Miss Louise Hannah, of Thomaston, fet ed guests of Miss Anne Heys, was the bridge luncheon at which Miss Mary Earle Allen was a charming hostess Tuesday morning, at her home on Taylor street. The tables were placed on the spacious front porch, where wall baskets and floor vases held quanti ties of beautiful summer flowers— marigolds, wall flowers, crepe myr tle and coral vine, effectively com bined, and forming a charming set ting for the lovely young girls in their vari-colored summer frocks. Miss Mary Glover won the ton score prize, dainty handkerchiefs, and the honor guests were present ed with handkerchiefs. The guest list included Miss Bell. Miss Hannah. Miss Anne Heys, Miss Ira Gatewood, Miss Mary Elizabeth Easterlin, Miss Christine Brown, Miss Ruth Everett, and guest. Miss Helen Daniel, Miss Annie Ruth Ray, Miss Josephine Simmons. Friday afternoon at a most de lightful bridge party at her home in DeSoto, honoring her house guest, Mrs. Allen Simmons Johnson, of Orlando, Fla. 'Tables for the game were ar ranged in the living room where an artistic arrangement of late sum mer flowers formed attractive deco rations-—marigolds, zinnias, gladiola and wall flowers filling baskets and bowls. During a street car strike in Des Moines she offered to establish a bus- system of transportation there. a delicious salad course with iced punch was served. Miss Eloise Parker and Miss Mary Felton, of Montezuma, arrived today to be the charming guests of Mrs. Emmett Murray, at her home on Rees Park for the remainder of the week. Mrs. Frank Coman and interest ing little son, Frank, Jr., left Tues day for New York City, after a vis it of some time to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Chapman, at their home on Forrest street. They will sail from New York Thursday after noon, on the “Cristobal” for their home n Gatun, C. Z. Panama. Dr. Emmett Murray will leave Friday morning for Des Moines, lowa, where he will go as Repre sentative from Georgia, to the Na tional Board of Pharmacy, which will meet at that city several days of next week. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ernest and children, of Portsmouth, Va., are guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Gate wood, at their home on Lee street. J. C. Denham and P. B. Hopkins have gone to Cuba, where they will spend their vacation pleasantly. Mrs. C. W. Clark has gone to Tampa, to visit her daughter, Mrs. Herman Howard. J. T. Manry has returned to Lake land, after a visit of several days to his brother, W. F. Manry, at his home on Church street. Mr .and Mrs. Ed McDonald have returned to their home in Fort Myers, after a visit to Mr. McDon ald’s brother, W. A. McDonald, and Mrs. McDonald, at their home on West Church street. Friends of Hal Harris, will be glad to learn that he is rapidly re covering from a tonsil operation, and is at the home of Mrs. W. H. C. Dudley on Church street. The many friends of Miss Janie Lee Kent will be glad to learn that she is recovering from a tonsil oper ation. at her home on Jackson street. Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Coker, Mar vin Lansford and Carl Lansford, of Miami, Florida, have arrived in Americus to visit their parents, Mr. ami Mrs. W. H. Lansford, and Mr| and Mrs. Talmadge Crabb for sev eral weeks, making the trip by mo tor. Mrs. Coker is pleasantly re membered as Miss Thelma Lans ford. Charles F. Howe will arrive Sat urday from New York, while Mrs. Howe will remain for several weeks with her son and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Howe at their home in Aston, New York. Mr. and Mrs. Howe have recently returned from a most delightful western tour through Califror.ia, Washington, Oregon and Canada, returning by Chicago and New York. Col. and Mrs. James W. Furlow and lovely little daughter, Peggy, who have been spending some time delightfully in the mountain? of North Georgia, at Clayton, have left Clayton and will arrive in Washington, D. C., by Sept. 21, visiting various points of interest en route. Sidney Howe has returned from a business trip of ten days to Mi ami and other points in Florida. See Our Window Display PAGE THREE TAX BILL BACK | ON CALENDAR ; Reprcstniatives Sign Resolution I Asking Income Measure to Be Replaced I ATLANTA, August 19.—When the house convened this morning u resolution was signed by Repre sentative Jones, of Meriwether, and one hundred other members of the house providing that the income tax bill be put back on the calen dar in preference to all other meas ures introduced. The resolution was referred to tin- committee on rules. The first bill taken up today was one which permits counties by a two-thirds thirds vote to establish a county manager form of govern ment. It was passed unanimously.
