MONDAY AFTERNOON, AUGUST 24, 1925 hatted gentlemen, in and out of the orchestra, could be counted on to slip away from their ladies when the boat touched shore and quaff a tail-stemmed glass of beer behind the swinging door. But in all the years since the photographer recorded this scene, the fundamental heart of the crowd has remained pretty much un changed. The excursion boats run every every summer up the Hudson and out to Coney Island. The musici ans still strum their harps and saw on their fiddles. The girls* still dance. The sideliners gaze. The old folks shake their heads. I Never cry over spilled milk. Keep a cat to lick it up.
