SATURDAY AFTERNOON, AUGUST 29, 1925 KLANS WOMAN HOPES DEFEAT "MA” FERGUSON (Continued From Page One) accepted sense of the word, and de lights in discussing state issues. She is the only woman ever elected to the state legislature and is an at torney. Last winter she was secre tary of the House Appropriations committee. She can make as good a political extemporaneous political speech as any man, while “Ma” on public oc casions usually reads a brief type written statement. The only point of similarity in the tw o women seems to be that both are excellent housekeepers, for “Ma” still finds time to preserve large quantities, of peaches. Mrs. Williams’ law practice has I been concerned mainly with cases involving domestic relations, but oc casionally she handles a criminal case. She has three daughters and her husband is dead. While in the legislature she spon sored measures to compel all chil dren up to 1-7 to attend school; to require good health certificates for all persons desiring to marry; to give financial aid to familiees when the father has been sent to an asy lum; to provide more humane treat ment of prisoners. Jazz music, sensational movies and extremes in women’s dress grate on her nerves. One of the first laws she hopes to have passed if elected governor will be one giving a married woman the right to sell her property without the consent of her husband. She ‘can't do this now in Texas. Barefoot Trip : i.,. - ' - 1 W 1 % m i F ! i ••$ > 'SsWsSI&I 5 ; > ; life I<’ \ ' ' « M ' W'C I A’ < . : /■ 4 W**’'*”' < o ■ '■ f I i / / I f R. A.
