ATLANTA, Ga.. Sept. 15.—Ac
cording to announcement by M. A.
Coykendall, immigration officer of
the Atlanta district, a total of twen
ty-one former inmates of the At
lanta federal penitentiary will be
deported before October. Eighteen
of these are now lodged in the Ful
ton county jail, while the remainder
have not yet been discharged from
the prison.
Practically all of the prisoners
were convicted for attempting to
smuggle narcotics into the United
Btates, it was said.
MAN WHO SHOT WIFE,
TAKES OWN LIFE
ATLANTA, Sept. 15.—Crazed
with grief because he shot his wife
on July 22, because she later filed
suit for divorce, and because of the
added fact that she had repeatedly
repulsed his efforts to reconcile
their differences, C. B? Harris. 29,
Monday afternoon ended his life by
drinking poison at his home, 310
Central avenue.
7,826 BALES GINNED
IN SUMTER, NOT 7,286
Seven thousand eight hundred
and twenty-six bales of'cotton were
ginned in Sumter county from the
opening of the 1925 season up to
September 1, not 7,286 as publish
'ed Monday. The error, a typo
graphical one, is regretted.
PACIFIC FLIGHT OF
PB-1 IS CALLED OFF
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 15.
Indefinite postponement of the San
Francisco-Honolulu flight of the
seaplane PB-1 has been decided on.
Captain Stanford E. Moses, flight
commander said.
Captain Moses said that the au
tumnal equinoxial storms are due
soon and that the ships used as
guard craft for the PN-9 Number 1
have been ordered to San Diego to
prepare for gunnery practice.
New Teacher
Here is Raleigh Valentine Reece,
who has been chosen to succeed
John T. Scopes as a high school
teacher at Dayton, Tenn. It’s a
safe bet that he is a Fundamentalist
and won’t mention monkeys during
the coming school year.
