SALARY INCREASE COMES WITH PROMOTION CHICAGO, Sept. 2S._After_aj ca’eful survey of the entire 'abor| situation extending from office boy to indications are that positions showing increases in sal aries require experienced help. Consulting the president of oce of our largest industries, the wnt er inquired regarding the rapid success of a certain yourg man wr.o had become general manager, and who a few years ag was but office boy; his answer was. Brown start ed as office boy, the lowest salaried position in our office, he was am bitious and managed to purchase a typewriter on small monthly pay ir.ents and after three weeks of practice at home he was promoted to bill clerk, which position gave him knowledge of the selling price of all merchandise. His next ad vance was that of typist, which taught him the numerous forms of letter-writing and enabled him to hold a stenographic position, giv ing him complete knowledge of let ter-writing. He was then made sec retary, bringing him into contact with all business details and quali fied him for the general manager s cff ice at ten thousand per year. The same opportunity awaits ev ery young man and woman. Educa tion or age have nothing to do with operating sb simple a machine as the type wrter. We are informed that a great piece of work is being carried on by a large Chicago mail order house in fur nishing typewriters to people wor thv of credit, by selling on small monthly installments, so low as to average about eight cents per day and actually teaching thee custom ers how to use and operate any tpe writer in about three weeks’ time You can get other ’nfojmtion .by writing the Type writer Exchange, 184 W.
