A] though Walter Johnson lost the ■world’s Series to Pittsburg, there is a movement on foot to raise a fund among t-he baseball fans of Am erica for the purchase of a baseball club for him. The move was launched here, being originated by Claude Willi ford, president of the Eastern Oklahoma Playgrounds Association, aided by local business men. “A million fans five a million dollars for a baseball team for Wal ter/’ is the slogan of Williford’s campaign. In less than an nour last night fifty-five local men and ■women gave one dollar each to the fund. Williford, who is acting as trustee for the fund, recalled that after the 1924 world’s series, John son expressed a desire to retire from active play and attempted to I buy a minor league club. MORE GROWN ERDLY BOOST CHARLOTTE, N. C., Oct. 16 Hardly had a dispatch from Musc gee, Okla., announced the initiation of adrive for “a million dallars from a million mans” to buy a base ball club for Walter Johnson than a "set of newspaper hounds” here made claim to being the “first to follow.” Eight minutes after word of the fund had been received, six saps had contributed their “pro-rata” and the club had started. Witnesses stated that the school truck driven by A. C. Fisher, was on the left side of the road of a sharpe curve where the accident hap pened. Fisher was unhurt in the crash. The truck turned over. Young Farrer, who was serious ly hurt was caught in the wreckage of the two cars and it took rescueu workers somethime to extricate him. Although an investigation will be held today and Waites is being held for this, it is said that no blame can be attached to him as he was on his side of the road.
