will conduct tin' experiments with 1
co-operation from exports of the;
Kansas State \grieiiltural College.
Sconce is collecting approximate j
ly 50,(100 ears of corn, representing)
20 Mil let les of the best drought
resistant earh maturing grain.
SEVIN YEARS
It is believed that it will ink i !
years o complete the expen..lent*
The on tiiod for determining the best
grain will be by elimination of the
unfit and by breeding the best var
iations together.
I'here will be cro- byhridijing
within and between varieties. Spe j
rial strains and lines will be devel
oped to bring < .it desired character
istics.
STRONG WINDS
The severe winds which blow
across the plans of western Kansas
are frequently destructive to corn
plants.
When these winds mj accompan
ied with rain or had. they otten I
lower entire corn fields.
One of the chief requirements for
the new corn gram to be developed
is that the corn stalks trey produc*'
must be strong enough ’o rests*
heavy winds.
As much of the Kansas corn is
ruined in the fertilising period of
the young kernel by beat destroy
ing the pollen, efforts will also be
centered upon plants that will fer
tilise the young ears eitnri before
or after the periods of extreme heat.
An elaborate system of records
will be kept. The progress »f . avh
ear of corn planted will be noted
and recorded for refer'a '.

Plains Methodist
Circuit
Next Sunday is the regular preach
ing day at Plains and the pastor is
expecting a good day. the hours of
worship being 11 and 7.
Despite the inclement weather and
i sickness in the community Concord
gave the pastor a fine congregation
i last Sunday morning and a good ser
vice was held.
The Concord Epworth League was
host to the Sumter-Schley League
Union on last Friday, there being a
large crowd from the two counties
j present. In the absence of the
president. Miss Annie Mae Brannen
president of Plains League was in
1 the chair. An interesting program
was rendered and much interest was
manifested in League work. Lee
Street church Americus, was award
ed the attendance banner. The next
Union goes to Hopewell church in
Schley County.
Four weeks from next Tuesday the
pastor will leave for the Annuual
Conference, which meets in Macon
Oct. 25th. This is a time of great
' interest to all South Georgia Meth
odists due their respective friends of
service for another year. Let us as
a Circuit make this next month count
in God's kingdom so far as we are
concerned.
