LOST RADIUM FOUND THIS MORNING (Continued From Page one.) rains during the past few days, the garbage was not burned, and for that reason the search was made easier than it would have been. However according: to Dr. Primrose, the ra dium would have been recovered even if burned. Radium is one substance, which can not be concealed nor destroyed. With the aid of the electroscope its presence is readily discovered. The electroscope is a small box like affair in which there is a gold leaf. The moment the machine comes near any radium substance, iXYvI /X a /PCM/wl 1 / I I U 118 li llfjfyl \jßj g < The Big Balloon Tire Question : “Are They Made With ‘Supertwist’?’’ We talk with a lot of motorists who have balloon tires—Goodyears and other kinds. We know the joy some of them are getting out of their balloons, and the grief that others are getting. And it all comes down to this • to get the real balloon tire, you must get one made with SUPERTWIST. Not just because Goodyear makes SUPERTWIST and ONLY GOODYEAR TIRES are made with SUPERTWIST— But because SUPERTWIST is the ONLY cord fabric developed specially for die elasticity and mileage-giving strength you want in your balloons. Also—Goodyear Balloon Tires made with SUPERTWIST cost no more than ordinary balloons. Take no chances. Come to us for Goodyears. i Americus Steam Vulcanizing Co. I < I Lamar St. Americus, Ga. TUESDAY AFTERNOON, NOVEMBER 3, 1935 I the gold leaf rises. The nearer the i machine is placed to radio active, , substances, the faster the gold leaf - responds. Almost immediately on arrival at the dump heaps, Prof Edwards an nounced that the radium was within a few feet of where the party was standing. The search then began. The machine was moved backward and forward. As the gold leaf re sponded or fail to respond, the searchers knew they were getting nearer or recering from the exact spot where the five little needles, no larger than a sewing ma chine needle lay buried. After locating the spot where it I was buried, the doctors and Prof, i Edwards began lifting the garbage I ashes and other litter, a handful at | a time. This was carefully search ,ed and placed in to small boxes. ■ The digging veritably a search for a fortune, proceeded until the electro | scope refused to respond. Then it I was known that the radium has ■ been lifted and placed in one , of the boxes. The nexts tep was to I scatter the boxes and test each box with the electroscope. One of the boxes showed evidence , of the presence of radium. Prof. Ed wards immediately announced that ’ the radium was found. Removing the stuff in the boxes, STRENGTH-SAVING Nowadays nearly every* i one is impressed with the health-building and strength saving merit of Scott’s Emulsion ■ of invigorating cod-liver oil. Millions of bottles are sold 11 every year. A very little used regularly daily builds health and helps keep the body in strength. Jnj[ Scott & Bowne, Bloomfield. N. J. 25-2 in almost teaspoonfuls, Dr. Primrose ‘ soon discovered a small piece of ad ] hesive plaster, about an inch wide and two inches long. In this nestle I the five precious needles containing ■ $5,000 worth of radium, was found. Neither of the doctors know how or just when the radium was thrown into the refuse cans, but because they are so small and resemble needles it is thought, in cleaning up after an operation, the needles were not seen.
