MBh JR SB AY AFTERNOON, NOVEMBER 5, 1925 The Dependence Os Man I On Female Cause Fear WOMAN TELLS fVHY ALL MEN ■ FEAR WOMEN Dr Beatrice Hinkle, Psychologist, j Says Men Have Always Feared Women 18 1 By HORTENSE SAUNDERS ■ Man’s fear of woman, her grow tag powder is the real reason for the Bex antagaonism that keeps the race from going ahead as it should, accor ding to Dr. Beatrice Hinkle, eminent Mew York physician, psychologist and psycho-analyst and a leading . -axponont of the Jung theory in I Men, she asserts, have always been •Afraid of women. The caveman with gnis brawn and swagger was fright ' fcned almost to death of the little ,%oman half his size whom he carried /.‘.about by the hair and forced to keep liis cave neat and tidy. “And they are even more afraid ■of her today, now that she is his rt* equal in the commercial world; now /'■that she can cast her ballot I out on his home any time she wants W to and —take the children with her.” In fact, no one is less sold on the ■ “you big strong man idea” than man n himself. “This fear, which is a psychologi | cal one, is easily explained,” she | says. “Man is born of woman and | comes into the world because of her. I He is under her care in his baby ■ hood and the formative years of his | childhood. “As he matures, he has to escape I from woman to become himself When he frees himself from her | domination, the first things he does ! naturally, is to assert his independ dence by belittling and degrading her. The easiest way to rise, always, is by lowering someone else.” And since woman is not biological ly or emotionally free from man, she (has always submitted to this domina tion. Without man she cannot ful fill her destiny as a mother and car rier on of the race. “Woman”, Dr. Hinkle says, “never has been afraid of man as he has been of her. She is afraid of con crete realities he may impose such as poverty, physical abuse, abanbon ment, and want, but she really un derstands man—even the bully type. For centuries women have been tied down rearing children and I keeping house, while men have been out in the world determining values. “That is why we live in a world where man’s achievements, such as war and conquest are magnified, and woman’s end of the program is min imized," she went on. ■ “Homemak ing, teaching and caring for children managing a large household, have never been recognized as important achievements because women them selves have not regarded them suffi ciently important. “Women will achieve emanicpa tion, not by aping men, adopting their clothes, their language, and their swagger, and following them in business and trade, but by getting the proper perspective on what is really woman’s work, and by digni fying it.” Doubled in Size and Now One of the Largest in the World The only Class A Circus with winter quarters in the South — the only big Circus the home of which has always been in the South. BEATRICE HINKLE In other words, she be.ieves that the woman’s place is naturally in the home and in the pursuits connected with it, but that this place is really infinite more interesting than an office or store or any of the institu tions created by man, if women will only regard homemaking as a special ized profession instead of something to escape. “The whole problem of the race today is how to improve human rela tionships, and the solution of the matter depends entirely upon what women do with this newly acquired 'freedom of theirs. If they do not dignify home pursuits instead of try ing to escape from tehm, they can never gain sex equality. “Perfection of parenthood is really TAKES THE PLACE OF “DRASTIC” CALOMEL FOR COLDS 6 FLU “Pepsin-ated” calomel acts better—clears up colds quicker—and kills flu germs Nasty clinging colds and danger ous flu germs quickly lead to lung infection. Atlanta Prosecu-! tor, Says Maudlin Sentimen talists Are Responsible ATLANTA, Ga., Nov. 4.—The great body of the general public, with its maudlin sympathy for the law breaker, deserves to be indicted by the grand jury as an accomplice after the fact and held equally ac countable with the criminal for the crime wave, under which this coun try is staggering today, in the opin ion of John A. Boykin, solicitor gen eral of the Atlanta Judicial Circuit and a prosecutor of national repute. The average person, Mr. Boykin points out, shedding crocodile tears tor the “poor criminal,” who “nev er had a chance,” who sends him flowers and candy and arranges mov ing picture shows for him and pe titions the parole boards to let him off with a minimum sentence, is the only one really responsible for the shameful condition obtaining today. It is he, the solicitor general says, who blocks the course of swift and complete justice which would force the necessary respect for the laws, of this country and thus insure the unalienable right of personal secur ity of the citizens. “When the citizen begins to rave and rant about the appaling crime wave let him look in the merrior and see at least one of the persons re sponsible for it,” declares Solicitor General Boykin. “ASLEEP AT SWITCH” SHEFFIELD, Eng.—A disastrous wreck was caused here by the rail way signalman’s lapse of memory.
