Kvery day attention in drawn
some particular great natural su
periorlty of Georgia over her ulster
Staten.
A» a cottou bearing Slat* site
well known. Her vast mineral re-
sources are now attracting capital
Hts. As a fruit bearing Htate ber
superiority is but now being geuer*
ally acknowledged. For truck,
dairy and stock farms her climate
and lands can not be excelled,
To these last raentioniugs, from
fruit on, a gr;at part of the interest
Is just now being turned. To
many, and in fact to ali, who know
anything of the State, it is no new
thing to be told that for fruit rais
ing Georgia, with her unexcelled
climate and rich lands, is way lu
the lead, as regards variety and
profusion, of any stale in the
Union. Toothers, and especially
to those of our northern friends
who deBire just such a home, the
story of this Garden of Kden has
but comparatively recently been
told, and while they have listed
,vlth willing ears, it takes strong
proof to convince them to the ex
tent that they will spend their
money and change tbeir abode to
our State.
For years, keen sighted men of
Georgia, knowing that this mduS'
try should tie, ami in time la
"bound to be, a leading one and
most profitable one in the State,
have sought to induce men who
understand it in all particulars, in
dustrious men who make the beat
of citizens, to come and settle
among us and make this their
means of livelihood.
For many reasons only now is
auccesB meeting their endeavors.
Chief among these has been the in
ability to secure a reasonable rate
on the railroads, one which the
people of the North would be will
ing tojpay.to come Htmih on an In
vestigating tour. Fur this Maj. W.
h. Glessner has assiduously worked
for years, and at last succeeded in
getting one. The principal ground

around Dayton, Ohi>. This section
is one noted for its< fruit growers,
and the leading occupation of the
people has been raping fruit of all
kinds. ,
The land has bten giving out,
and the inhabitants have been seek
ing new and betted fields for their
work.
About a year aio Maj. Glessner
brought a party of prominent and
well-to-do people/of that sectioo to
Georgia, delighting them with the
vast stretches of magnificent lands
which could be Uuuglit for a song,
The sight which iiet their eyes far
excesded their lightest expecta
tions, and immediately the Ohio
Land and Fruit Company was
founded, with a capital stock of
$100,000. Kscli member paid his
pro rata, and Ia$ds were immedi
ately bought.
In a few weelei, some time during
the last days of this month, anntb
er party will he brought to our
State. The members of the com
pany will of esurse be in the party,
hut besides these there will he
mauy more.
In'ali there/will not bo less than
one hundred, and more a
pected.
To those tho iauds of Georgia
will ha showu. The finest growing
capacity, the excellent lands for
truck farms,etc.,will he pointed out
and inspected. Kvery place in the
Male, as near a- possible, will be
exhibited, and from the trip Geor
gia can .n>t fai. to ue greatly added
to in population and a great deal of
money bought In.
The men ho will comprise tho
party at.- -veil to-do, hut practical
farmers, cf the typo wanted here.
Tiiev have been raised at work on
fruit orchards and truck farms,
and will bo a most valuable addl
lion to us. They will raise interest
by practical exunipie in industries
of t'lis kind, and place Georgia
Where she ought to lie in regard to
this branch of her superiority.
Thus our people will lake up the
work, while as the same time the
Influx of tills excellent elass of
citizens will cnniiMisily increase.
. Its a step forward
I hat is being taken, and il would ho
haro to over estimate its value to
the whole of Georgia.
The Ohio Fruit Land Company

start. .

Is the positive verdict of the peo

When used according to directions
the good ellects of this excellent

Against Southern Claims.
Washington, D. C., January 10.
-To-day’s developments in the
House show little prospects of any
legislation to relieve Southern
claimants. The bill for the relief
of the Citizens’ bank of New Or
leans was fought by the Republi
cans at every step, and finally,
finding themselves unable to strike
out the enacting olause, adjourned
It looks now as though scarcely a
single one of the thousands of
claims from the South will bn al
