Kveryrlay attention is drawn to
some particular great natural su
periority of Georgia'over her BiBter
States.
Abu cottonj bearingJState nlie is
well known. Her vast mineral re
sources are now attracting capital
ists. Asa fruit bearing State her
superiority Is but now being gener
ally acknowledged. For truck,
dairy and stock farms her climate
and lands can not be excelled.
To these last meutioniugs, from
fruit on, a gr?at part of the iuterest
is just now being turnod. To
many, and in fact to all, who koow
anything of the State, it is no new
thing to be told that for fruit rais
ing Georgia, with her unexcelled
climate and rich lauds, is way ill
the lead, as regards variety and
profusion, of any stale in the
Union. Toothers, and especially
to those of our northern friends
who desire just such a home, the
story of this Gar.leu of Eden lias
but comparatively recently been
told, and while they have listed
with willing ears, it takes strong
proof to convince them to tho ex
tent that they will spend tliei
money and change their abode to
our State.
For years, keen sighted men of
Georgia, knowing that this Indus
try should he, and in time i
bound to be, u leading one and
most profitable one iu the Htute,
have souglit to induce men who
understand it in all particulars, in
Uustrious men who make the best
of citizens, to comc and settle
among us and make this their
means of livelihood.
For many reasons only now is
success meeting their endeavors
Chief among these has been the in
ability to secure a reasonable rate
ou the railroads, one which tho
people of the North would be witl
ing tojpayjto come South ou an in
vestigating tour. For thiB Maj. W,
L. Glessner has assiduously worked
for years, and at last succeeded tn
getting one. The principal ground
upon which he lias worked is
around Dayton, Ohio. This section
is one noted for its fruit growers,
nnd the leading occupation of the
people has been raising fruit of all
kinds.
The land lias been giving out
aud tlie inhabitants have been seek
ing new and better fields for their
work. .
About a year ago Maj. Glessner
brought a party of prominent and
well-to-do people of that section to
Georgia, delighting them With the
ast stretches of magnificent lauds
which could be bought for a song.
Tho sight which met their eyes far
exceeded their brightest expecta
tions, and immediately ttie Ohio
Land nnd Fruit Company was
founded, with a capital stock of
•tlOO.OOO. Each member paid his
pro rata, aud lauds were immedi
ately bought.
Ill a few weeks, some timeduring
tlie last days of this month, nnotli
er party will be brought to our
State. Tlie. members of jjie com
pany will of course be in tho parly,
but besides these there will lie
many more.
lit all there will not be lesj than
one hundred, and more are ex
pected.
To those the lands of Georgia
will he shown. Tlie finest growing
capacity, tho excellent lands for
truck farms,etc.,will lie pointed out
and inspected. Every place iu Hie
State, as near as possible, will bo
exhibited, and from tlie trip Geor
gia can uot fail to be greatly added
to in population and a great deal of
moucy brought in
The men who will comprise the
party are well to-do, but practical
farmers, of tho typo wauled here.
They have been raised at work on
fruit orchards and truck farms,
and will be a most valuable addi
lion to us. They will raise interest
by practical example 'in Industries
of t iis kind, and place Georgia
where site ought to lie In regard to
tills branch of her superiority.
Thus our people will take up the
work, while as the same time the
inllux of this excellent class of
citizen i will continually increase.
Its a tremendous step forward
that is being taken, and it would he
hard to over estimate its value to
the whole obGeorgla.
Tho Ohio Fruit I-aud Company
already has a good deal of niouey
Invested and has hardly made a
start.
Tlie men are business men, and
nothing but business is tolerated by
them. They have come, have in
vested, will come again and settle.
