An Egyptian mummy that had long been in possession of the Augusta Medical College was examined by a gentleman who has made a special study of Egyptian antiquities. A piece of pipyrus, which was the material the ancient Egyttans wrote on was found Inclosed in the wrappings of the mummy. There was writing on this piece of papyrus: tho writing was translated and part of it ran as follows: “I have fallen under the so oeries of the accused Aperitt yet blot not me out utterrly.’’ The Egyptians called tho Jews Aperiu, which word referred to their occupation as shepherds. TLe Egyp-, tians were asuporstitious, though in teliigt nt, people, and some 03 the c intelligent B.11 cal students o ! Thin is true ironi myVfiB Upon tins question, it is oloarly the port of wisdom, first, to make the utmost of home resources. There mayb» crops or there may be soils or fields $.r which, nudor certain clroumutanoe*, ft is preferable to use fcrtilizors rather than manure*; and, of course, wheu one must purchase the element* of fertility it is an important question w'- thyr t,lmy can be more cheaply obtained in manure or forl.il iz-r, and l believo the deobion must bo in I’avur of tho latter; hut those faote really indicate an necessary conflict ho tween tho two classes of materials, There is claarly room enough for both, Upon most of our farms the supply of manure is insufficient. Xho majority of farmers uso some fertilizer. It is generally wise for the ordinary crop of the farm to use these in connection with oooh other, rather thau separately, The physical effeot. of the mauuro is g morally desirable, aud cannot bo ob taine'l by the use of fertilizers. It pro vents in a manure tho cohesion of the particle : in heavy c|ajr and thus h-.;: rais the probability of baking and cracking, and it seoms to increase tim capacity of tiie lighter Boiltrfcw moisture. Tie con¬ stituents of moAtire tiro also in many CaHOH less promptly available than in fertilizer*. It t» desirable to employ the latter to give the crop a quick start. Question 8.—What is the very boat plan for saving and protecting mauuro? Answku 8.—In general terms a rain¬ proof shelter with a perfectly tight floor is tlio boat. The utmost cara should govern the selection of a site for the ntannro pile. The bottom should bo so arranged that the liquid can neither loach nor drain away, and if tho whole is covered, wo have ns perfect a recap taclc as can bo niailo and such an in vestment pays for its cost several times over in tho saviug of elements other w iso wasted.
