Friday morning of last week, before day, one of the heavy freight trains on the Georgia Railroad was rushing along at a high rate of speed just above Greenesboro, as the train was nearing Richland creek, the en¬ gineer saw a big blaze of fire flash up before liun. _ He r stopped as quck as possible. The trestle over the creek had been set on fire. The trainmen put out the fire and went on notifying a squad of traclonoa of th. Are. They repaired to the trestle and to their surprise found that the g re ] la( i been re-kindled and was again devouring the trestle. There seems to be some very mischevious scamps along the line who would wreck the road regardless of who they might kill. The trains are often rock ed west of that place and on tc wards Atlanta. Mrs. Lunce Brake is quite sick with pneumonia. Little Mamie Wheeler was taken sick at school yesterday. The almost unbroken drouth has presented the sowing of oats up to the present date. Farmers are nearly through gathering their crops, which ex¬ cept in favored localities are turning out very short. On account of sickness of the pastor’s wife, we had no preach¬ ing at the Methodist church at tho last regular appointment. Mr. W. M. Wheeler has made arrangements to supply our vil¬ lage with fresh fish on every Saturday evening. This is quite a convenience. Rev. B. H. Ivey, pastor of tho Powelton Baptist church, has been called by the Sparta church for two Sundays, instead of one and will give up the here. Pastor Ivey has a strong hold on the affection of the membership of the Powelton church, and he will not be given up without a strenuous effort to obtain his valuable services an¬ other year.
