Business has been pretty biisk in our town for the past week. The turnip crop is generally a failure through this section. Rev. T. B. West preached at Jennings’ last Saturday and Sunday. Jackson still remains in a bad state of health her little daughter is ako sick. Mr. Wilson Kendrick was badly hurt last Friday by his horse running away with him. Mr, William Stone, of Washington, was visiting liis sister Mrs. John I. Harris last week. Hotel Jackson seems to keen filled up with transient custom as well as some regular boarders. ■ Mrs. Jack Harris, of Williams Creek, has been quite sick the past week. She has heart trouble. Cotton is lying around our depot in abundance. It looks like somebody is waiting for a better price. Yv e saw several of our old Greene coun¬ ty friends last week at the Association, some that we had not seen in years. Mr. A. D. Moore will soon have liis residence completed. Mr. Moore is a hustler when he starts to business. Mr. James Maher, of Augusta, was up last week visiting relatives. He has been living in Augusta a number of years. We learn there were soqae additions to t$c Presbyterian' church at this place during the reient nrai.r-ted meeting. it Is strange that some people are al¬ ways so anxious to give other people ad¬ vice and never practice what they preach. Some of our horse trading sports had some harsh words with each other recently but we don’t think there was any harm dono- ffudge • Jacob Rocker, of Warren, was in our section last week. He is well known in this section having lived here for sev¬ eral years. Mrs. Janie Harris has returned from Emanuel county where she has been on an extended visit to Mr. and Mrs. Bell Thomson. Dr. King, the specialist, lias had sever¬ al cases in our town to work on arid it is, said that hs is very successful in his treatment, Mr. Paul Masseagale, of Norwood, was visiting his sisler Mrs. Jesse Tajior re¬ cently. Paul is quite a curiosity when you get him started. We learn that Miss Annie Brooke has been elected teacher rf the school at Jennings—a good selection, She will open the first Monday in November. The death of Mr. Will Strom last week was a sad event. He was an industrious quiet young man and thought well of. We sympathize with the bereaved family. Mr. P. D. Tax lor, of Wilkes county, was visiting relatives in this section last week. Mr. Taylor was raised in this county and is a son of the late Seaborn Taylor. Burglars tried to enter some of our stores last week but made a failure. They were not exports. They bored into Mr. John O’lvtele’s and Mi. J. A. Kendrick’s stores but did not get in. Mrs. Bailie Jackson returned home last week from Washington where she had been on a visit to her sister and for medi¬ cal treatment. Blie has. been ip a bad state of health for sometime. The colored people have been carrying on a night meeting at the Branch church above Barnett for two months or more and it is said there has been a great nmtiy professed a hope. Well, wc hope they have but; some of them act very simple. Wc hear it reported around that they are going to try this county again soon on prohibition. It is too late no#—Christ¬ mas is too close at hand. We ought H work at that when the big meetings going on. We would have better Success. Oar town council had their regular meeting last week and attended to regular routine of business besides putting fines on some of the boys from one to five dollars for some of their misconduct.
