I QUESTION”.—Piea«o give me a remedy. If there be any, for preventing weevils from destroying corn unshneked. Answer—T herein but one efficient agent by the use of which you can pro¬ tect your corn, and that, is the bi-sul¬ phide of carbon. I have urged the farmers for two years to try this, and some of them have done so with great ■uccess. Georgia will house a fair crop of corn in a short time, much of which will be lost or rendered worthless by the depredation of woovils. Whan your •oru is housed place on top of the pile iu shallow v*see!« or poured on Gotten wuste. b»-»»lphide of carbon, at the rate of 1 it, pounds of the bi-sulphido to every 100 bushels of eorn if the crib is very open, or 1 pound to the 1O0 bushels if the crib is tight. The bi-sulphide quickly vspociees, and the vapor being heavier than the air descends through the mass of corn, permeating every nook »ud corner, and killing nil insects that it reaches, as well as rnts and wr.oo. Tho bi sulphide is a colorless liquid with an unpleasant odor, and i-s a powerful pois.m, aud can lie bought at almost any drug store for 20 to 110 <vuts a pound. There is a much cheaper grade called “fuiua bi-sulphido,” which is said by tlioao who hare tried it to be quite as •ITective us iuiy. Boar in mind that the vapor of this liquid i« very iuflawabla, aud that no fire, not even a lighted pipe or cigar, tu: t be taken anywhere near it. This danger exists ns long as there ic any odor of tho bi-rulphid«, and may oontinue for two or three days. The grain will not be injured either for eat ing or for planting purposes by this treatment. Sorao of the weevils being protected by the shucks from c intact with the vapor, will escape the first ap plication, but a second use of tho remedy in three or four weeks will kill these, " *"'■>*»!»» »*' *»ved from weevils by placing In u hogs feead or barrel and applying a proper tlouHte amount of the la-sulphide as above described.
