Taliaferro Superior Court in
Session this Week.
cases tried to date •
Jud^e Kee«‘ * Charge to the Juries and
pis Effort to Enforce the Laws.
Some Sentenced to Chaingung.
The Superior court convened
Monday at 10 o’clock,
.Judge Seaborn ReeSe presiding.
Solicitor R. H. Lewis was pres
ont to look after tlie State’s in
terests.
In his charge, to the grand
jury, Judge Reese presented in
best manner the duties of the
juror and guarded our “county
fathers” against all law-break¬
ing, laying special stress on
those crimes of gambling, blind
tigers, carrying pistols conceal¬
ed and vagrancy.
He declared the county was
full of the latter, and In nearly
every case the vagrant is con¬
nected with one or more or all
the other crimes. He also said
that the country was getting in
a worse fix along this line and
unless the good people of the
country generally did not assert
their rights in enforcing the law,
it would not be long before the
bad people Would so far outnum¬
ber the good, that this land
would be in a deplorable condi¬
tion.
Ho made a noble charge and
told of many improvements that
could be made by enforcing the
law; one being the improvement
of our public roads.
Tuesday morning several
cases were settled, eousent ver¬
dicts being given,there by saving
a great deal of time.
In the case of Paul Cary and
mother against G eorgia Railroad
a settlement was reached, giving
Mr. Cary $8,000.
In the two cases of Pruellla
Eduards vs. Titus Richards,
claim cases; in the first the, laud
was subject ami tfi the second
the laud was not subject.
Tuesday afternoon was con¬
sumed in trying the case of Mrs.
Emma Akins vs. Georgia Rail¬
road, for burning up pine straw,
wood and trees on the former’s
place. The Railroad attorneys
requested the jury to repair to
the pine field and inspect the
premises which they did, walk¬
ing about live miles round trip
iu the hot sun. They found a
verdict late that night in favor
of the Ga. Railroad.
Wednesday morning several
were continued, iucludiiig
various cases vs. L. T.
Moore & Co., and one or two ver
diets wore given colored peojile
in divorce cases. Rail-1
