ADVOCATE-DEMOCRAT. Taylor has at last been elected Governor of Kentuckey on the Republican ticket. Vice-President G. A. Hobart died at his homo in Patterson, N. J-, Tuesday last. Col. Tom Watson’s son Dur¬ ham, who is attending law lectur¬ es in Athens, is reported very sick. Warren county votes Dec. 2nd, on the question whether that county will have a new road law or not. The Savannah Press seems to think Taliaferro’s candidate for Superior Court Judge is making a mighty good race. The averago legislator is ex¬ plaining why ho let the dog law pass. It is a good law if onforc ed. It tuxes male dogs fl and females f 1.50. The Willingham prohibition bill passod the lower house of the legislature Wednesday and if passed bytheSonate will become a law. It prohibits selling or yjiquors in any form iu Georgia. Tho exchange Bank of Athens is in the hands of a receiver. That may throw some speculat¬ ion into the air as to Cashier Benedict. His books were found in bad shape. Mr, A. S’Parker, formerly of White Plains, is the receiver. ‘v Nature Babies and children need proper food, rarely ever medi¬ cine. If they do not thrive on their food something is ; wrong. They need a little help to get their digestive * machinery working properly. ScoKgrtSjOH COD LIVER OIL WfTN HYPOPHOSPHITtS t LIME 1 5004 will generally correct this difficulty. If you will put from one fourth to half a teaspoonful in baby’s bottle three or four times a day you will soon see a marked improvement. For larger children, from half to a teaspoonful, according to age, dissolved in their milk, J if you so desire, will very soon show its great nourish¬ ing power. If the mother’s milk does not nourish the baby, she needs the emul | sion. It will show an mother effect j | at once both upon * and child. I lck re all druggist*. s SCOTT . . B NT. i'hero '*.s. On last Sunday, the day was perfect, bumble bees busied themselves among the flowers while some of the fruit trees are bearing fresh young apples and we notice some fig trees with ripe figs on them, and we expect ripe strawberries could be gathered from the vines around. The weather has been exceptionally fine for some woeks now. —Mr. J. N. Chapman has mov¬ ed a portion of his dwelling and is making much improvement there about. There’s a story of a farmer and his son driving a load to mar¬ ket. Of the team they were driving one was a steady relia¬ ble old gray mare the other a fractious, balky black horse. On the way the wagon was stall¬ ed and the black horse sulked and refused to pull, “What’ll we do father?” said the younger man. “Well” said the father, “I guess we’ll have to lay the gad on the old gray.” That to women: “The gray mare’s the better horse” suggests how often when there’s an extra strain to be borne it is laid on the woman’s back. How often she breaks down at last under the added weight of some ‘‘last straw. » » Women who are dragging along wearily through life can gain real strength by the use of Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Discov¬ ery. It puts back in consentrat¬ ed form the strength making material which working women use up more rapidly than it can be restored by Nature in the or¬ dinary processes of nourishment and rest. Dr. Pierce’s Pleasant Pellets are universal favorites with women because they are easy to take and thoroughly eff¬ ective in curing the consequencs of constipation. —Mr. W. C. Chapman’s horse that was hurt nearly two weeks ago is about dead, taking lock¬ jaw one day this week. It will not be a surprise to any who are at all familar with the gesj- qualiltef of Ch amber !] n > Cough Remedy, to know that people everywhere take pleas¬ ure in relating their experience in the use of that splendid med¬ icine and in tolling of the benefit they have received from it, of bad colds it has cured, of threat¬ ened attacks of pneumonia it has averted and of the children it has saved from attacks of croup and whooping cough. It is a grand, good medicine. For sale by Dr. R. J. Reid. Crawfordville L. R. Brown, Sharon. HasBmi Pardoned. Col W. N. Maltbie tells us that he has at last succeeded in get¬ ting Albert Jones pardoned. Jones was found guilty and sen¬ tenced to 6 months iu the ohain but in making out the pa¬ pers through error they read 12 months and the Judge so signed them, and Jones has served in the W 7 ilkes county gang about three months over his time. Round Bale Day. Messrs. Schley, Hall and others interested in buying round bale cotton were here Tuesday and bought about 50 bales. The market head just fallen back generally but these gentlemen paid as high as 7 11-16. There were 50 round bales ship¬ ped from this depot received Tuesday. There is yet & preju dice against tho round bale that will have to be over come before a great deal of it is packed that way. House Harm'd Sunday. The homo of Mr. J. A. Ashley was destroyed Sunday morning at White Plains. Mr. Ashley had just left the place a few minutes and on his return the blaze was rushing out of the top. His wife and children were away from home. Stove, bureau, mattress es. feat er bed, sewing machine, two chairs and a trunk are all the goods he saved. Mr. Ashley was insured with Western. C. G.
