Attention citizens of
Crawfordville
The MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL want to remind the citizens
of an important city problem. This problem involves animals off
leash and uncontrolled. Several incidents have occurred involving
loose and uncontrolled dogs. Two dogs, one looking like a German
Sheppard and one white with a black spot visited a home in town
recently and killed a pet cat, jumped up on the front porch of the
house as the owner tried to get them to leave.
Please remember that there is a great deal of legal liability if
your uncontrolled animal causes harm to a person or property.
A wandering animal can be picked up by the city and held until
identified and appropriate fines paid. It is the owner’s responsibility
to control their animals at all times.
If you have any questions, please call City Hall (706) 456-2605.

Kendall Richards for City Council, Post 3
I am Kendall Richards “The
Crawfordville Candidate”. I
am running in the March 12
election in order to retain my
seat on the City Council. I
have served on the council
for over a year and have been
appointed Mayor Pro Tern. I
believe my work in State and
Local Governments has given
me the skills and knowledge to
handle government problems.
This kind of knowledge and
ability is very much needed as
our national politics gets more
and more complicated, and will,
no doubt, affect state and local
governments at some time.
I ask for your vote and
support as we work together to
make Crawfordville better and
better.
Homeschool children from area tour Greensboro
Submitted by Ivy Webb Cowherd Homeschool mom and Greene County local

and Brody Benkosk
Local Homeschool Group
went on a walking tour of
downtown Greensboro, visiting
multiple historic sites, and
hearing about local history. The
tour started at Episcopal Church
of the Redeemer, from there
they walked to Banksouth, L.
L Wyatt Jail, where they heard
stories of the famous law man,
then to the Old Goal where they
imagined what life was like there
for the prisoners. Next they
walked to Festival Hall, walking
inside to see the beautiful art
pieces hung inside and learning
about basketball games, sock
hops, and lots of concerts that
have taken place there over the
years. Then to the Courthouse
where they marveled at the
Greek architecture and paid
their respect at the memorials for
the veterans of wars. They then
walked to The Herald Journal
newspaper office where they
learned that a newspaper has
been published in Greensboro
for over 150 years, and has
been owned by the same family
for 118 years and is still operated
by a member of that family. As
they were learning about this
the children were welcomed in
by the man himself, Mr. Carey
Williams, and his staff. Then
on to Main and Broad Street
where they stopped to take a
picture at the Greensboro mural
and then pointed out Genuine
Georgia, and The Big Store
where the kids then heard the
story of one of Greensboro’s
most famous persons, Oscar.
As they continued the tour
they pointed out Maggie Lane
which used to be Hunters Drug
Store where they heard about
the dog that would come in for
ice cream and it charged the
cost to his owner. They also
learned what an EHB (empty
hotdog bun) was, that Hunter’s
Drug Store was also famous for
serving. They then crossed the
street to Greensboro Jewelers
Building, where they looked at
the vents in the sidewalk and
learned it was a bakery and
candy store, and heard about
the robbery that took place not
of jewelry but of a marble slab.
The group continued down the
sidewalk stopping to look down
towards Oconee Brewing Co.
that at one time bottled Chero-
Cola, the Loft Apartments which
used to be a mill that employed
lots of people locally and talked
of other notable places to visit
in Greensboro and throughout
the county. The kids as well as
the parents learned something
about this little town that holds
so much history. We would
like to thank the local business
that let us tour as well as the
Downtown Greensboro Website
for providing lots of information.
We encourage everyone to visit
the website and take a tour in
your own backyard. You will be
amazed at the things you know
or the things you don’t know.
