JoVeta Smith sworn-in as
Deputy Clerk of Taliaferro
County Superior Court
On November8,2023, JoVeta
Smith was sworn-in as Deputy
Clerk of Taliaferro County by
Madam Clerk Herberina M.
Turner.
After over 30 years in
Customer Service with 9of those
years in a Supervisory Position
and 5 years of those years in
a Managerial Position, JoVeta
states that she is very excited
to embark on this new journey
as Deputy Clerk. JoVeta will
provide the citizens of Taliaferro
County with wonderful service
and a beautiful smile. She will
be a great asset to the Taliaferro
County Superior and Juvenile
Courts.
Herberina M. Turner seeks re-
election as the Clerk of Superior
Court for Taliaferro County
Sheriff Tia M. McWilliams becomes the sole
candidate to qualify for Sheriff of Taliaferro County
Candidate Gualifying Week
began on Monday, March 4,
2024 and ended at noon on
Friday, March 8, 2024 with
Taliaferro County Sheriff Tia
M. McWilliams being the only
candidate to qualify to run for
the Office of Sheriff in Taliaferro
County, Georgia.
Sheriff McWilliams stated,
“It is an honor and a privilege
to serve as your Sheriff. I am
committed to continuing to
serve the citizens of Taliaferro
County faithfully. I trust and
believe in God and I know
that God is always in control;
therefore, I pray that He will
continue to cover us, protect us,
and keep us safe as He leads
us throughout the next term. I
thank you for trusting me and I
ask that you all cast your votes
for me, Tia M. McWilliams for
Sheriff, for term #2 and beyond.

love you!! ”

Herberina M. Turner qualified
on Monday, March 4, 2024, for
re-election for the Office of Clerk
of Superior Court of Taliaferro
County.
This year’s General Primary
Election will be held on Tuesday,
May 21, 2024, with early voting
starting Monday, April 29, 2024.
Madam Clerk states that she
is a lifelong resident of Taliaferro
County. She has been employed
by Taliaferro County for almost
20 years with over 16 years with
the Taliaferro County Sheriffs
Office and the last 3 plus years
proudly serving as your Clerk
of Superior Court. It is an
absolute honor and joy to serve
the citizens of my hometown as
your Clerk of Superior Court.
I am asking for your support,
prayers and votes as I seek
re-election as your Clerk of
Superior Court for Taliaferro
County.

Trina Berry, a lifelong resident
who has deep roots in the area,
is running for Taliaferro County
Board of Education Seat 4.
Her candidacy is not just about
politics; it’s about continuing
a legacy of service and
commitment to the betterment
of her community.
Having been raised in
Taliaferro County and educated
within its school system, Trina
Berry understands the unique
needs and challenges facing
the community. Her upbringing
instilled in her a strong sense of
duty and a passion for helping
others, qualities that have
defined her career and personal
life.
As an active member of
New Battery Baptist Church,
Trina Berry has consistently
demonstrated her dedication to
her faith and community. Her
involvement in church activities
has allowed her to connect with
people from all walks of life and
understand the issues facing
her neighbors.
Trina’s commitment to service
extends beyond her church
walls. In her role as a Private
Duty Assistant at CareSouth,

Trina Berry is not just running
for a seat on the Board of
Education; she is continuing
a legacy of service that was

came before her. Standing on
the shoulders of her mother,
Mrs. Virginia Moore, a Board
member of the Taliaferro County
BOE, Trina is determined to
carry forward the work of her
predecessors with integrity and
dedication.
Hercampaign is notjustabout
maintaining the status quo but
ushering in a new era of progress
and innovation for the Taliaferro
County School system and the
wider community. Trina Berry is
passionate about implementing
new and creative ideas to
benefit students, teachers, and
families. Her vision for the future
is one of inclusivity, excellence,
and opportunity for all.
Trina Berry is a devoted
community advocate, a loving
wife, and a mother of four
children. Her family values and
commitment to their well-being
young people with skills for
a lifetime. Students choose
a project area of interest,
research the topic and write and
present a presentation. 4-H’ers
develop leadership, creativity,
public speaking, record keeping
and other skills. As students
become older, a record keeping
component that promotes
independent thinking, research
and implementation is added.
Students in 5th and 6th
grade attended Cloverleaf DPA
at Rock Eagle 4-H Center near
Eatonton, GA on February 10,
2024. 4-H’ers that attended and
competed were Jack Eubanks
and Leonardo Cervantes. Jack
Eubanks competed in Outdoor
Survival Skills and placed
2nd in his category. Leonardo
Cervantes competed in
Veterinary Science and placed
1st in his category.
Junior and Senior 4-H’ers,
which are students in the 7th-
12th grades, attended Rock
Eagle 4-H Center March 1-3,
2024, to compete at District
Project Achievement. However,
before attending DPA at Rock
Eagle, each 4-H’er completed
and submitted a portfolio before
are evident in everything she
does, and she understands
firsthand the importance of a
strong education system for
future generations.
As the election approaches,
the community is urged to
consider Trina Berry as a new
choice for a new change.
Her proven track record of
service, her deep roots in the
community, and her passion for
making a difference make her
the ideal candidate to represent
the interests of Taliaferro County
on the Board of Education. With
Trina Berry at the helm, the
future of education in Taliaferro
County is in capable and caring
hands.

eight 4-H’ers attend. Aiyana
Barcus competed in Health
and placed 1st in her category.
Carlos Cervantes spoke on
the topic of Photography and
Videography while placing 3rd.
Kaylee Cervantes competed in
the category Food for Health &
Sport and placed 2nd within her
category. De’Meriyus Sigman
gave a demonstration over
Engineering & Mechanics and
placed 2nd in his category.
Kendall Smith was in the
Textiles, Merchandising and
Interior category and she placed
1st. Carlton Thomas, Kanyia
Scott and Jayren Harris also
attended to compete in Sports-
Team, Workforce Preparation
& Career Development and
Photography & Videography,
respectively.
We are so proud of all of
our 4-H’ers and cannot wait
to see what their future holds
