We are taking applications for vendors now so please get your application as soon as possible-and send it in to us as soon as possible-spaces are assigned first applications received, first assigned a space. If you had a space last year and remember the space number that you were assigned put that number on your application this year. If your application is late someone else may be assisgned that space - we can not hold a space. Applications are in the Taliaferro County Board of Commissioners Office (inside the courthouse). We will place applications in other locations around town in the future (restaurants and stores). We are looking for a DJ - if you are interested please get in touch with me about the music. We are looking for individuals and groups to perform at the Labor Day Fair (whatever your talent is singing, dancing, etc). We would like to have Bands from Taliaferro County School and surrounding schools to perform. We would like to have “Bouncy Houses” for the children (Bouncy Houses will need your own insurance - our insurance will not cover your Bouncy House). We plan to have horses in the parade this year. We would like everyone to come together as a community and help, if you would like to join the committee you can get in touch with me. I will let you know the day and time we will meet. (michaela. brown@uga.edu) Happenings at the Park Archery Fundamentals May 31, 3-4PM. Come try your hand at this beginner’s archery lesson and put your newfound skills to the test. Ages 8 and up are welcome. Call the park office to pre-register at 706-456-2602. Park shelter #3 is the location. There is a $10 fee, plus $5 parking. 33rd Annual Junior Fishing Rodeo Saturday, June 1 Kids 15 and younger can try their hand at fishing and maybe even win prizes for youngest angler or largest fish and there will be door prizes. Register between 7:30am and 7:45am at the main office and enjoy some fishing fun on Lake Liberty. The tournament will start at 8am and end at 11:30am. $5 parking fee required. 33rd Annual Senior Fishing Rodeo Saturday, June 15, 2024 8 AM to 12 PM This tournament will be held at Lake Liberty. Anglers 55 years and older can try to win prizes in several categories, as well as win a door prize. Register between 7:30 AM to 8:00 AM at the main office and enjoy some great fishing. The tournament will start at 8 AM and end at 12:00 PM. $5 parking. 706-456- 2602. The Taliaferro County Seniors Mother’s Day Program On May 9, 2024 the Taliaferro County Senior had their Mother’s Day Program. We would like to thank Ms. Eleanor Pope for being the guest speaker. The program was a success. The Seniors did an amazing job. If you weren’t there you missed a treat. Thanks to Kim’s Kitchen and her staff for catering the food and the beautiful pink decoration. Summer Reading Program The Taliaferro County Library’s Summer Reading Program will kick off this Tuesday, May 28 at 3:30 with Juggler, Todd Key. Todd Key is a one-man club-throwing, ball-spinning, ladder-balancing, hilarious extravaganza! Kids of all ages will not want to miss this awesome show. Additionally, there will be a special story time event on Thursday, May 30 at 3:00. Kids will have the opportunity to listen to “Frozen” stories and songs told by Anna and Elsa from Timeless Tales. Kids are encouraged to wear their favorite Disney costumes as they will have a chance to meet and take pictures with “Frozen’s” Anna and Elsa following the storytime. The library will be showing recent releases of kid movies on Fridays this summer starting on Friday, May 31 at 2:00 with the movie “Migration”. Please stop by the library for a full schedule of events which will be available all summer. There will be programming held for the Adults throughout the summer at the Mary Willis Library in Washington, beginning with a Movie Night, showing “The Color Purple,” on Friday, May 31, at 7:00 pm. Popcorn will be provided, but patrons are also encouraged to bring their own snacks and drinks. Adults can register now for a Paint-Along with local artist, Joanna Clippinger. This program will take place on Thursday, June 13, at 2:00 pm at the Mary Willis Library. Supplies will be provided and participants will take home a beautiful acrylic painting! Spots are limited, so call or stop by the library to register for this program. Adults are also able to register for the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program, which will be hosted by the Wilkes County UGA Extension at the Mary Willis Library this summer. The program will be held on Mondays at 1:00 pm starting June 3 and continuing through July 22. Children and Adults of all ages can sign up for the Summer Reading Program by stopping by the library, downloading the Beanstack app to their mobile devices, or visiting btrl. beanstack.org Toddlers through 5th grade children who have signed up for the program will receive prizes at three different reading goals, 10 books read, 25 books read, and 50 books. Each time they reach one of those goals, not only will they receive a special reward but their names will be entered into a drawing for the grand prize, a Dinosaur ride push car or a Hoverboard. Pre- teens, and teenagers, 6th grade and up, will receive prizes for reading 5 books and 10 books.
