PAGE 4 THE ADVOCATE DEMOCRAT, Crawfordville, GA, Friday, June 7, 2024 Tanna Shelnutt receives her Doctorate in Physical Therapy Taliaferro County Library’s Summer Program Greensboro’s Moonlight on Main Concert announces bands food, ice cream, shopping and fireworks all in Lake Oconee’s Hometown. “Moonlight on Main is downtown’s premiere summer concert,” explains Kendrick Ward, Main Street manager. “We hear from visitors all the time that Greensboro is such a charming and welcoming place, which is why we share our town with others by inviting them to join us in a fun evening of music and fireworks with our friends and neighbors.” Starting at 7 p.m., Jarvis Wingfield and BlaqBerry Band will take the stage. Their soulful rhythm, Motown, Funk, Pop, Hip Hop and of course Oldies but Goodies will fill the streets of Greensboro and make you want to dance the night away! August 25 at 5:00 PM: If you’ve never experienced music that combines elements of old-time mountain music, square dance fiddling, blues, gospel, jazz and even popular music, then you’re in for a treat. We’re bringing the Doug Flowers Band to Greensboro! The Doug Flowers Band is a well-known group of bluegrass musicians from near Augusta, Georgia. Their style of playing is a tribute to this musical art form. So, mark Sunday, August 25 on your calendar. We’d love to see you at this musical event and, best of all, it’s free of charge! I got to spend a weekend with one of the volunteers and I did absolutely fantastic. I’m working hard on my leash skills and I have improved. I know there is someone that is made just for me. Crawfordville Baptist Vacation Bible School Friends and cousins had so much fun at Vacation Bible School at Crawfordville Baptist last week. An average of 20 children enjoyed Bible Study, games, science experiments, food and crafts last week. Participants at the Taliaferro County Library’s Summer Reading Program had a wonderful time at last week’s “Frozen” storytime. Children enjoyed hearing “Frozen” stories, singing songs from the movie, and dancing along with Anna and Elsa. The South Carolina Aquarium also visited the library and conducted an educational program. The aquarium staff educated children and their caregivers about the aquarium, its animals, and their habitats. The kids even had the opportunity to pet some of the animals after the program. The next special program at the library will be on Tuesday, June 11 at 3:30 with ventriloquist Mike Stafford. On Thursday, June 13 at 3:00, the library will be hosting a special event presented by “Out of the Box.” They will bring a traveling shark museum to the library, where children will get a chance to see different kinds of shark teeth, a real shark’s jaw, and learn about the Megalodon. Additionally, during this event, children will have the opportunity to participate in an under-the-sea virtual reality experience, where they can see ocean creatures like never before. Children, ages babies through those going into the 5th grade, who have signed up for the program will receive prizes at three different reading goals, 10 books read, 25 books read, and 50 books. Each time they reach one of those goals, they will receive a special reward and their names will be entered into a drawing for the grand prize, a Dinosaur Ride Push Car or an Hoverboard. Pre-teens, and teenagers, 6th grade and up, will receive prizes for reading 5 books and 10 books. The grand prize for the young adults will be a drone. The Sounds of Summer Look what’s coming to First Presbyterian in Greensboro Tanna Jane Shelnutt received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine on May 21 in Duluth, GA. Tanna received the Excellence in Service Award for her outstanding contributions to the community through volunteer efforts while enrolled in the doctoral program in physical therapy. In 2016 she graduated from Nathanael Greene Academy in Siloam and in 2020 from Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville with her Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science. Tanna is the daughter of Celeste and Jim Thurmond. She is the wife of Dalton Shelnutt. Gather your friends and family, Greensboro is prepping for the Annual Summer Concert, Moonlight on Main. It will be on Friday, June 21 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Downtown Greensboro celebrates the summer season with the annual concert Moonlight on Main. The Greensboro Main Street Program in partnership with the Greensboro Business Association presents the concert as the summer’s main event. This family-friendly event will feature live entertainment, hymns and spiritual songs to God,” summer worship services at 10 a.m. will feature psalms both beloved and troubling in June, favorite hymns in July, and songs found in Scripture in August. In addition, three Sunday evening events are planned. June 23 at 5:00 PM: The church will be holding a Taize Prayer Service...a simple, meditative form of ecumenical worship involving sung and chanted prayer, meditation, periods of silence and Scripture readings. This form of Christian worship began with a Swiss named Brother Roger after a long convalescence from tuberculosis. He left Switzerland in 1940 and settled in the small French village of Taize where he began to form a community of like-minded worshipers. During World War II they provided safe shelter to refugees, Jews and agnostics fleeting the ravages of war. Today the Taize community has Catholic, Anglican and Protestant members from nearly thirty countries and numbers around eighty...a tangible sign of reconciliation between divided Christians.
