OR REAPPOINTMENT
JUVENILE COURT JUDGE
The Superior Courts of
the Toombs Judicial Circuit
are soliciting applicants for,
and input regarding, the
appointment or re-appointment
of a circuit-wide juvenile court
judge for the Toombs Judicial
Circuit. This solicitation, made
in compliance with O.C.G.A.
§15-11-50(1), is occasioned
by the end of the term of
Judge James T. Jones, Jr. on
September 30, 2024.
In advance of this
appointment, the Judges of
the Superior Courts of the
Toombs Judicial Circuit seek
the application of any qualified
persons seeking appointment
as circuit-wide Juvenile Court
Judge in the Toombs Judicial
Circuit. Qualified persons
seeking appointment should
forward to the Court an
expression of their interest in
the position as well as an up-
to-date resume or curriculum
vitae to the address provided
below no later than September
1, 2024. The statutory
qualifications for appointment
to this position may be found at
O. C.G.A. §15-11-51.
Also, the Judges of the
Superior Courts of the Toombs
Judicial Circuit further wish to
solicit input from the public,
from the bar, and from all other
interested persons, entities
or agencies regarding this
upcoming appointment.
All interested parties are
requested to submit their
input regarding this matter,
and qualified persons seeking
appointment to this position are
requested to send the items

Dear Friends,

burned incense to other
Gods, that they might provoke
me to anger with all the works
of their hands. Therefore my
wrath will be poured outon this
place, and not be quenched”.
1 Chronicles 34:25. Both
Deuteronomy and Leviticus
had long lists of blessings
for obedience and curses for
rebellion, which were part of
the conditions attached to the
covenant with Israel. In all of
life, no greater sin, no more
serious or sadder error could
be made than to forsake God
and believe other Gods. Such
an act cuts one off from all of
the loving care, wisdom, and
discipline of the creator God.
Apostasy grieves God, and it
grieves those who love God.
Mercy, grace, and love are
always available to us, for the
Lord is always available to
us.

In my daughter’s neighborhood
lives a dog who is a major pest.
Dodger wants you, or anyone within
his vision, to throw a stick for him
over and over and over. Don’t dare
pick up the slimy piece of wood he
drops at your feet. He will dance
around you and try to entice you to
play his game, but don’t give in, or
you’re stuck!
Some nights my brain acts like
Dodger when I try to fall asleep. I
cannot seem to stop thinking about
this or that. Give an inch and my
daughter’s neighborhood fetcher
will take a mile. So will my frenzied
thoughts, if I let them.
Kimberly Jones reminded me
from her book, You Gotta Get Up,
“God trusted you with your mess
so you can impact others with His
message.” The Holy Spirit works in
and through me at the perfect time
and in the perfect way to serve in
His kingdom. He shines so others
will see Him in my mistakes. When
you can relate to me, you can relate
to God. That is what God Sightings
are all about!
Humans struggle with the same
things. God orchestrates our lives
to remind us that we are not alone.
He created us for community, not
isolation. We all suffer with messes
and failures that might threaten to
keep us up at night. A mind focused
on Jesus will find rest.
Instead of trying to be everything
to everyone, to control and order
upcoming events and activities,
my heavenly Father calls me to
breathe, focus on Him, and relax in
a peaceful, calm sleep in His arms.
I will dodge the distractions and
reach for my heavenly Father today.
I hope you will, too!

Director of Facilities - Heritage - Full Time
“Heritage is rebuilding a community of faith and restoring
the first Catholic settlement in Georgia into an entire historic
Catholic district. Located in Taliaferro County, Heritage includes
Locust Grove Cemetery, the oldest Catholic cemetery in
Georgia, established in 1790; the Church of the Purification of
the Blessed Virgin Mary built by the first Catholic congregation in
Georgia; and The Retreat, a 200-acre retreat center with cottage
accommodations, prayer and fellowship spaces, walking trails,
and sacred art.
The Director of Facilities will create and execute the policies
and procedures for the maintenance, cleanliness, and safety
of the facilities and grounds at Heritage. This position will plan,
lead and manage the facility maintenance staff, landscape staff
and other team members who deal with daily operations. This
position, a full-time role, reports directly to the Chief Operating

June 2024 Blotter
June 1,2024 deputies arrested Kyvan James, of Hephzibah, GA.
James was charged with speeding and arrested for having an active
warrant out of Richmond County, GA.
June 1,2024 deputies arrested Elva Scott, of Atlanta, GA. Scott
was arrested and charged with speeding and driving while licensed
suspended.
June 4, 2024 deputies arrested James Harrison Bolling, of Johns
Island, SC. Bolling was arrested for having an active warrant out of
Gwinnett County, GA.
June 10, 2024 deputies arrested George Macon Nunn, of
Crawfordville, GA. Nunn was arrested and charged with entering
auto and criminal trespassing.
June 10, 2024 deputies arrested Julian Mendez Butler, of
Grovetown, GA. Butler was arrested and charged with speeding,
seat belt violation, open container violation, possession of drug
cocaine, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a
crime.
June 27, 2024 deputies arrested Anthony Sanders, of
Crawfordville, GA. Sanders was arrested and charged with
disorderly conduct and terroristic threats and acts.
June 28, 2024 deputies arrested Antonio Martin Cervantez,
of Crawfordville, GA. Cervantez was arrested and charged with
obstruction of law enforcement.

How to play the water bucket game? You will need two buckets,
one filled with water and a big sponge.
At the front of the line have a bucket full of water and a sponge.
The first player fills the sponge with water and runs across the yard
to squeeze the water into the empty bucket. The player then returns
to the first bucket and hands off the sponge to the next player. This
is repeated until the players fill the second bucket with water.
This game can be timed to see how long it takes the players to
fill the second bucket or if there are enough players to make two
teams, the team that fills the second bucket first is declared the
winner.

Presbyterian to Host
Hymn Shout-Out
Psalm 66 says, “Shout for joy to God, all the earth!
Sing the glory of his name. ”
That special something at a community Shout-Out.
That is exactly what The
First Presbyterian Church
of Greensboro will be doing
Sunday, July 21 at 5:00 pm, and
EVERYONE in our community
is invited to attend this joyous
event. The church will be hosting
an old-fashioned Hymn Shout-
Out...also known as a hymn
sing...and we will be using the
old Cokesbury Hymnal to praise
God and give thanks.
Everyone attending is asked
to find one of their favorite
hymns in the Cokesbury Hymnal
- a hymnal used by previous
generations of fellow believers
- and “shout out” that hymn’s
page number. After everyone
in the congregation has a few
moments to turn to that page,
everyone in attendance will
make a joyful noise and sing
that hymn together as one body.
Please join us on Sunday, July
21 at 5:00 pm as we joyfully
pay tribute to God and to those
who have gone before us as we
sing traditional hymns - hymns
that were so meaningful and
precious to our grandparents
and those who came before
them. If your heart longs for the
hymns of old, this is an event
you will not want to miss.
The First Presbyterian
Church of Greensboro is located
at 117 South Main Street (next
to the post office) in downtown
Greensboro.
Preacher Cake
Cake:
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 20-ounce can crushed
pineapple, with juice
1 1/2 cups finely chopped
pecans, divided
1 cup flaked coconut
(optional)
Sift together flour, baking
soda, salt and cinnamon; set
aside.
Combine sugar, eggs, oil and
vanilla in a large bowl then mix
on medium-low speed with an
electric mixer until creamy.
Slowly mix flour mixture
into wet ingredients until just
combined.
Add pineapple (undrained),
1 cup chopped pecans and
coconut then continue mixing
on medium-low speed until
all ingredients are thoroughly
combined (about 1 minute).
Spray a 3-quart 13x9 baking
pan with cooking spray. Pour
cake batter into pan then bake at
350 degrees for 45-50 minutes
or until cake is set in the center
and a toothpick inserted comes
out clean.
Cool cake completely in pan
then frost with Cream Cheese
Frosting. Sprinkle remaining 1/2
cup chopped pecans over cake.
Store in refrigerator.
Frosting:
1 8-ounce package cream
cheese, at room temperature
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, at
room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups powdered sugar,
sifted
Whip cream cheese, butter
and vanilla with an electric mixer
until fluffy (about 2 minutes).
Beat in powdered sugar (add
more if necessary to reach
desired consistency).
Class on
propagation to
be held
A class on propagation will
be held on July 6, 2024. Learn
how to root camillias, roses,
crape myrtles and hydrangeas
at Walker Church at 10am. The
class is $25 a person. Call 706-
347-8822 to register for the
class.
Preamble to the
Declaration of
Independence
We hold these truths to be self-
evident, that all men are created
equal, that they are endowed
by their Creator with certain
unalienable Rights, that among
these are Life, Liberty and the
pursuit of Happiness.
Nations come into being in
many ways. Military rebellion,
civil strife, acts of heroism, acts
of treachery, a thousand greater
and lesser clashes between
defenders of the old order and
supporters of the new-all these
occurrences and more have
marked the emergences of new
nations, large and small. The birth
of our own nation included them
all. That birth was unique, not only
in the immensity of its later impact
on the course of world history and
the growth of democracy, but also
because so many of the threads
in our national history run back
through time to come together
in one place, in one time, and in
one document: the Declaration of
Independence.
The Declaration of
Independence states the
principles on which our
government, and our identity as
Americans, are based. Unlike
the other founding documents,
the Declaration of Independence
is not legally binding, but it is
powerful. Abraham Lincoln called
it “a rebuke and a stumbling-block
to tyranny and oppression.” It
continues to inspire people around
the world to fight for freedom and
equality.
