Wheatly’s bank last Monday night in Americus the thief was caught in Fort Vully and carried hahk to Auiericus and failing to make a $5000 bond went to jail. Dr. McMicbael near Putnam in¬ formed us last Saturday that Mr Putnam Stevens lost a horse the week before that was bitten by a mad dog about a year ago and that he (the Dr) lost a hog with the same disease bitten at the same time. We had read of and heard him spoken of but never had the pleas¬ ure of meeting him till last Friday night, at which lime he lectured at the courthouse in this place. It is needless to say how he and his lect¬ ure were received. It was not only good but very good. It was a rich and rare treat, we speak for our¬ self and think we express the desire of the people of Ella ville when we say come again.He preached two celient sermons here Sunday and Sunday night. VVe never saw ter attention. It made us feel proud of our little town and county and it is always very pleasaut to us to note the marked respect that our good people show to all and especial- ly strangers. Trip lo Americas. we spent a day very pleasantly in Americus this week. Thanks to Col. W.C. Simmons for courtisies. We called on quite a number of the merchants and was very kindly reccived. Glover who treated us kindly and had the pleas¬ ure of making the acquaintance of Rev.L.W.Parrott a young and prom¬ ising minister recently located there ^He showed us around. We made the acquaintance of Dr. Joiner and W. F. Easterlin, J. B. Easterl n, J. B. Hill and some others whose names we have forgotten. Mr. P. V. Wesson has nearly completed his hotel, when completed will re¬ flect great credit on the enterpris¬ ing little town. Prof. Clarks school is in a flourishing condition. They have a very creditable school build¬ ing. There are two churches Prim¬ itive, and Missionary Baptist. This has long been the home of Mr. M. P. Huber railroad agent and j father of our Geo. P. Huber agent at this place. He has been agent at Andersonvilie for a long time and has served faithfully, which is evi¬ dent from the fact of his continuance in office. Entertainment at Murray’s Hall. The oat crop lias been very badly damaged by the late cold and also by the larks.
