Two goats went under a bridge 1st Saturday evening for protection from the rain and hail and narrowly escaped drowning. Their appeals for aid were affecting. A young limb of the law from this place made a trip to Dooly re¬ cently and reported on his return that he never saw a Gordon man. A grand revlution surely since then. The firm formerly known as John¬ son & Dixon is now known as the firm of Dixon & Williamson. J. B. Williamson son of It. F. Williamson has purchased Mr. Johnson’s inter¬ est. We received the sad news of the death of our Florida brothers oldest son about 16 years of age, from re¬ lapse of measles. We extend our united sympathies dear brother to you and family. Thanks to Subscriber for his arti¬ cle on his recent trip througli the upper portion of Macon county. Hope we will hear from him as of¬ ten a he teels disposed to honor tlie Enterprise with an article. We don’t hear much from our country correspondents of late, suppose they are engaged in fight¬ ing general “Green.” We don’t op¬ pose such fighting, wish there was more of it; but hope our friends will not forget us entirely. She died at her home near Garden Valley, Macon county Ga (date not given) of consumption and leaves a sorrowing husband and children to mourn their irre¬ parable loss, hut their lows is her gain. Dr. Westbrook, of Americus, vis¬ ited our town last Tuesday evening and Wednesday. Miss Addie Parsley, of Anderson- ville, visited Misses Katie and Lillie Williams Sunday. Mr. W. T. Scovill, spent a few days with his family last week and re¬ turned to Albany Monday. Miss Jessie Johnson, of Anderson- ville, bus been spending a few days with family of G. P. Suber, this week. Mr. R. J. Smith and lady of Har¬ ris county, who has been visiting relatives in the city returned home Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Bolton, father and mother, of Mrs. H. T. Arrington, from Americus is visiting their daughter who is very sick. Mrs. S. J. Cottie and little ones, returned yesterday from a visit to friends and relatives In Buena Vis¬ ta to their home in Schley county. Miss Rosa Baldwin, of the city in company with Miss Mamie Taylor, of LaCross, has been visiting rela¬ tives in Oglethorpe for the past Week. Our sanctum was brightened Monday eve l>y a pleasant call from Misses Mary Lizzie Hart, Mary Cot tie, Jessie Peacock, Ada Gaines, Meta Smith, Susie Cockrell and Ada Wall. Mr. W. H. Payne, of Poindexter, was in town a short time Wednes¬ day morning. We thought of the good old days before the war when we used to go to school together. We were quite young and small then you know. Biilie is a clever nice man. Mr. R. A. Marshall who has been delivering Golden Gems of Life to subscribers in this county recently took his leave yesterday. Mr. Marshall is a very quiet orderly business young man. The best and most fitting of requisites and recom¬ mendations, he is a pious young man. Hewill lie in our town in the fall provided nothing prevents, to finir.h delivering books and re¬ quests parties who subscribed to be ready by the last of October. A Terrible Death. A sad death occurred on Mr. ley’s place, 25th inst., under the lowing circumstances: Jordan is, living on the same place and wife were out in the field at work and their seven months child in the cradle; Butler Ross about 9 of age was sent to the house ivater and while there kindled a tire in the cradle and burned the child to death. lie said he did it because Lewis had whipped him for killing his (Lewis chicken.) Tlie young murderer was brought before Justi¬ ce Hlxon last Monday. All the evidence disclosed the fact that he was the real murderer, but because of his age as proven (about 9 years) he was turned loose with the advice to take him home and give him a sound thrashing. T., with one or two others were ahead, Miss M, thought that she would frighten tlie ones behind her so as somebody was turning the Miss M., thought that it was the rest of her crowd so she jumped them hut, aias it Was the arm of young man that she jumped in.
