Mr. Miles Wimbushof this county informs us that lie sold a bushel of new sweet potatoes in Aniericus last Tuesday at $1.50. Camp ‘meeting begins on Satur¬ day night before the third Sunday in this month at the Buck Creek Camp ground. We have a special invite. The meeting closed at the Baptist church Wednesday night, With two accessions, Mr. John H. Allen by experience and baptism and Dr. R. T. Bivins by restoration. There was a great disappointment every way in Eld. J. H. Corley’s not com¬ ing. PIED. Ida E. Childers daughter of Xlr. Tip Childers was born June 9th 1877 and died July BOth 188t>, of inenin- getis. Ida was a favorite child of a lovely disposition and universally loved by all who knew her. Why the tender flower is plucked and others tottering under weight of years are left is not for us to know yet it is true. The judge of all the earth will do right. Mr. Frank Short, of Marion spent the night with R. M. Murphy and family Monday, he says that his crop is the best that he has had in ten years. Mr. R. C. Meadows and family of this place who have been absent for three weeks visiting relatives near Garden Valley, Macon county, re¬ turned home last Monday. He re¬ ports fine crops iu that section. From Uclicc Mills. Uchek Mill’s, Ga., July 31st, ’8(5. Cotton is growing finely now. The corn crop is about made and for this section it is good and bad. Mr. Henry Weaver killed a rattle snake, in the swamp below the mill last week large enough to swal¬ low a good size dog. The picnic at this place last Thursday was a complete failure. We should say it was smothered to death. We learn that Prof. John M. Col- luni opened his school at Glenn Holly, last Tuesday. As to the prospects for a school at that place We have not learned. Some of our neighbors think the chances for tiie long coveted stock law, grows brighter every day. Mr. Sid J. Rainy, our champion eoon hunter caught four up one tree last week. Wb have either been dreaming, or there is an earth quake some where in the neighborhood of Hr. McMichael’s, one thing certain there is a constantly booming over that way. Editor Enterprise :—How very fortunate in the* midst of life’s sorrows that now and then a day unalloyed pleasure falls to our lot, such a day was spent yesterday and enjoyed to the utmost by quite ft number of the prettiest young ladies and rather good looking young men representatives of our little town and immediate commu¬ nity at the handsome residence of our kinsman and neighbor Mr. J. M. Gay, where we received every attention, that h hospitable family could offer. Accept many thanks kind friends. We regretted very much to And Xlr. Gay in feeble health, being confined to his bed and suffering With cataract over his eye, yet in spite of his suffering he was cheerful and kind giving us permission to romp as much as we liked and have our fun the principal object of the day was to hunt and shoot every dove we came across, we were anxious that the young ladies should try their skill at hik¬ ing aim and shooting doves two, but only one of the girls could mus¬ ter up the courage to try her hand with a gun, hut we must admit that they understand exceedingly well how to manage “Cupied arrow.” (I speak from experience you know.) In the forenoon we visited the free flowing spring known as the tan- yard spring and drank of Its pure and sparkling water, after which we repaired to the house to rest and cool until dinner was announced. Now .Mr. Editor I didn’t mean to convey the idea that we left just as soon as dinner.wasannounced,no sir not a bit of it, but we accepted most graciously tiie invitation ami enjoy¬ ed the dinner, which consisted of many good and palatable varieties such as fried chicken, chicken pie, kid and mutton, several varieties ot cakes and custards, pickles and so on, all of which we enjoyed to the complete satisfaction of our appe¬ tites. In the afternoon we took a walk to settle our dinner to another fine spring, known as the academy spring.This spring is about the tinest .your writer ever saw gurgling up from its white sand bottom to the bight of about four feet being situ¬ ated at ilie foot of a very steep hill. From the last named spring we rambled through the cotton, corn fields and enviable watermelon patch hack to the house and Mr. Editor to our credit be it said we did not steal but one watermelon and that was to green to lie eaten,so m uch for the judgment of the young lady who selected it. We sincerely hope that in making her choice in a com¬ panion for life she will use bet¬ ter judgment. After returning to the house some one suggested a ride, so we hitched up. Each young man selected his partner and took the road leading to Oglethorpe about I mile drive brought us to the store of Mr. Jackson, but he (Luke.) was gone and so site did not see him. We purchased some candy for the girls just the stuff 1 they like best, from the store we returned to Mr. Gay’s, where we deposited the Misses Gay, Smith and Cheney. After expressing our gratitude to the family for the pleasure of the day we wended our way home¬ ward, all agreeing that it was a day well spent and never to be forgot ton by the party.
