The entertainment, tomorrow j night, will be from very interesting, as | can be seen the programme 1 below. After a short but excellent address of welcome by Harry Stevens, and some sweet music, will come (Jot. J. R. Williams’ ora- * tiou on “Southern Womanhood.” It is a subject in which we are all interested, more or less,and Colonel Williams is, as we all know, an enthusiast and an authority on the subject. It will be a labor of love and he will do his level best. It is worth the price af admission, with¬ out rebate, to hear this address. We speak thus confidently because we know it is just so; and the Colonel has himself assured us (in confidence) that it “is a splendid speech.” Then, after music, will come a recitation by Miss Susie Berry, fol¬ lowed by Mr. Morgan McMiehael’s oration ou “Manhood.” Mr. Mc- Michaei will do this broad and in- teresting subject full justice. Miss Leila Hornnday’s recitation will next claim attention, and then’ Hon. W. D. Murray’s address, sub¬ ject not stated. It will be a good speech, however, rest assured. The “Olio” by Miss Mary Horna- day, editor of the club paper, will be a special feature of the exercises, She is a good editor, an excellent reader, and always holds the undi¬ vided attention of her audience. Tlie entire programme, including the valedictory by Professor Stevens (which will come too noon), promises to be one of rare interest. The proceeds, as all know, will be used in repairing the Ellaville school building. Thus while enjoy¬ ing yourself you will be aiding a good cause. The Chicago Ledger Is a large, eight-page, six-column devoted to literature. The cheapest and best story paper in the United States. Runs from four to six serials regularly, short stories and “war memories,” with several other special features not found in other papers. An intensely inter¬ esting story entitled, “The Auarch- ist’s Daughter;or, the Bomb-Throw¬ ers of Chicago,” hasjust commenced. Every family should take a liter¬ ary and story paper. Through Professor Jason Shirah I received an invitation to witness tlie closing exercises of his music class at Mountain. The large audi¬ ence was made up of beauty, intel¬ ligence and refinement, and the de- coium was very good. It is but due the class at Moun¬ tain Springs to say that many of its members were beginners who did not know even the notes, and nothing of the rudiments of music, who have made such wonderful progress they were placed in the leadership of their class—each iu turn leading. The class was a large une and exhibited great proficiency for a short term of only 12 days. There was a contest in the fore- noon between twelve young men for the blue ribbon of honor for pro¬ ficiency and gracefulness upon the floor in leading tiieir lessons. Ail performed so well that itwasdiffi- cult for the committee to make the awards. The committee was com- posed of Misses Mattie Stubbs, Bet- tie English, Moilie Joiner, Alice Kitchens, Laura {Stubbs, Lou Wick¬ er and Nora McKinzie. The victors in the contest were William McKin¬ zie, Andrew Pennington, Charlie Law, W. C. Kitchens, Jesse Pen¬ nington and Marion Pennington. After refreshments, B. A.Hudson, the orator of the day, was intro¬ duced and, after the song—“All hail the power ot Jesus’ name”—the ad¬ dress was delivered on the “Im¬ provement of our talents,” and was listened to with close attention. Lastly, some excellent music led by the blue ribbon boys, and the in¬ teresting occasion was closed by Professor Shirah with the beautiful song, “When the mists have cleared away.” This pleasant day wiil be long remembered, but longer the kindness and hospitality of the good people of Mountain Springs.
