Kllaville Georgia, The third party agitators wi re evi dently hard up for a secretary at meeting in St. Louis tins week. The Florida Standard, tlte great dis sfminati r of demomitis discoid, pub listed at Jacksonville, has suspended. We congratulate Florida. Editor Bayne’s poem on ihe Sunday church sensation is one oitheirmst unique pieces of satire we have ever seen An J while extremely severe, under the cir cumstances it ispossiby justifiable. • -m w Bro. Christopher of the Montizuma Record is trying to organize a prospec ting colony to hunt greener fields out west this summer. Running a third party paper over in Macon county must not be a very prosperous business. If none of the Macon Telegraphs spe cials from Atlanta are shaded that city must have the most corrupt municipal government under the sun, barring New York of, course. We are loth to believe all the reports the Telegraph correspondent sends out. The game of foiot hall in A tlanta last Saturday, between the Georgia State University team and the Alabama College boys resulted in a victory of ten to noth ing in favor of ihe Alabama team. We don't like to see Georgia boys “goose egged” that ivay. but have instructed our devil to throw up liis bat for Alabama. The editor of tin* Macon Telegraph says “Florida Malaria seems to be making Quay quake,” and on the first pa r e of Ins paper publishes half a column of “gush” about. Quay being slightly indisposed from the effect of a cold, no doubt contracted from imprudence. The editor of the Telegraph should consult Webster, when commenting on diseases lie knows nothing about, and not make himself so absolutely redicuious. • • 4* » News comes from polite Chicago that the latest social fad is the revival of the feminine courtesy which was the “proper caper,” instead of a bow, in the days of good Old Mother Hubbard. Sooner or later the courtesy is liable to stray down tliio way. So if you happen to be saluted with a sudden dip and squat on being introduced to a fashionable young lady sc-ne fine evening, just hold your ground She hasen’t lost anything.—Macon 1’eiegragh. Un ess it is her comprehen sio« of gracefulness. “It is curious to note the moral effect •>t illness upon people,” said a prominent Atlanta physician cite other day, “For instance, among my patients are a preacher who swears when he is sick, stud a gambler who prays. A successful and well known business man will not go to his bed when illness attacks him, be cause of a mortal fear that he w ill never nse from it again. A lady of not the fin ttiest character has all her jewelry and fine dresses laid on the foot of her bed. I suppose to keep her mind from terrifying thoughts.” We received this week from the Jen nings Business College, Nashville. Tenn.. fac similes of two cheques, the largest and smallest on record. The former is for 5,638.650 pounds sterling, equaling $26,608,250 in American gold and was drawn on the Kimberly Lranch of the Cape of Good Hope Bank Limited in favor of the liquidators of Kimberly Central Diamond Mining Company, bearing date of 18th July. 1889. The smallest one is for one cent, drawn i favor of P. W. Jeiming, attorney against the American National Bank of Nash ville, Oct. 13, 1891. Th t> -s getting to be too many sensa timia! preachers now-a-days. Their intentions may be good but their methods are very, very bad and llie sooner the God-fearing people of our country stamp their everlasting condemnation upon sU' li indecent practices by renegade so called preachers, the betler it will be for the true ehristan There is no record in the book of holy writ, of personal abuse of individuals being employed bv Christ or any of his twelve ilecipies to bring souls to God, Then how can any man in these latter days have the brazen audacity to pro claim himself an imitator of the meek and lowly Jesus and indulge in such vul gaiism. God as a God of love, employs no such agents to work the salvation of his people. They are blasphemers in the sight of t tie almighty and instead of building up the religion of Christ, they are under the cloak of godliness, fighting the battle of the imp of darkness antt threatening the very foundation of the church. Spurn them as you would a viper; make them feel the contempt the Chris tian chtnclies have for them; sink them into everlasting oblivion and the religion of the true and only God will take re newed vigor • THE THIRD PARTY. Just now there is more or less doubt in the minds of the people all over our siate as to what will be the result of the *i'd l'arty movement. We are sorry to say. not of our own knowledge but upon information received, that there are a few third party agitators in our county. To such if there be any here, we desire to sound a note of warning, in the following from the trenchant pen of the editor of the Macon County Citizen, who is well known to everybody in Schley county: “There is r.o half ivay gzounds between democracy and republicanism. If dem ocracy loses republicanism is sure to win and chat means another four years of tv ranical ru’efor the money powers of toe North and four more years of oppression and servitude for the agricultur.il people of the whole country.” Looking into the matter fmthur let us call back some of the thrilling experien ces of what is known through the length and bredth of the south as the reconstruc tion period. Many of us remember witha feeling akin to horror what tliiscountry went through with then before the dem ocratic party—the party ofthepeople— grasped the reins of local government, and that at a time when the combined intelligence of the country was arrayed in solid falatix against the ignorant and superstitious. By almost superhuman efforts our state government was wrested from the hands of u band of robbers and thieves known as carpet-baggers, and turned over to out own people. Can we afford to bring back ti|Hm us such a state of affairs. W e need not tell you that with a devided democracy this same class of spoilsmen will pounce down upon us and reap the rich harvest of our many years of pros perity. They are watching their chance and smiling at every movement towards organ zing a third p-rty. Toe third party agitators are the most presuming people we have ever met Some time ago we had an opportunity of list ning to a speech from one of them it a picnic m Polk county Florida. After arraitmg the national democracy for every evil law passed since 1845 in a sppei h lasting about two hears, a recess was taken for dinner. At this juncture the writer and another pusher of the quill approched the stand and asked the speaker if lie would make a slight correc tion upon resuming his speech after dinner. “What is the correction?’ hedemanded rather curtly, wherupon we replied: “There are many people present, good democrats, who are likely to be misled by your remarks simply because they are COUN TY NETTB, n >i w. ij inf urned iu our po itu'ui P;e tse st <u- to them 'his atteyno >n that THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY HAS NEVER HA D FREE AND UNRESTRICTED CONTROLL ATOURS "*>• »"•' J°u rompiain of were ^ 8 r ‘-P“ M '>' a " b ? “ 7’“ “** 0 ’ ' ... Instead of branching off into a third party which is likely lo bring about undesirable results, even to its advocates should it gain any headway, let us as democrats, put our shoulder to the wheel; elect a democratic president, backed up with a democratic house and senate, (live t!ie party we have fought so hard for in the past a chance and if it does not live up to its promises it will then be line enough to kick.
