DOWNEDTIIE PREACHER. I Geo. K. Downen, has worn the nine ribbon in Ellaville for a long time as always carrying the largest budget of innocent jokes, but he appeared in a new roll Sunday night. He had gallantly complied with a re qmst from the church organist, to fur nish music on that occasion. Every thing went smoothly unt il the first hymn was plarei after the sermon, when, without as much as halting long enough for the organ to catch its breath, he led off with the doxobigy* The members of the congregation looked at each other and smiled, while a blank look stole over the pastor’s countenance. T, J. Hixson Pres. C. R. Tondee Sec. GLENN HOLLY ITEMS. Major W. A. Wilson, of Sumter coun ty, vice president of the state alliance, has been invited to address the alliance men of Schley, at this place on Friday evening, March the 18th. The alliance and others are invited to be present. Those of our neighbors who have been enelined to favor the third party, have for several reasons, concluded to remain in the democratic party. Evidently they would have been very lonesome had they acted other wise. The back pay plank in the peoples party platform, which would take several billions of their hard earned dollars and transfer them to the pockets of the men who devastated our country in '(14 and ‘65 was a little too much for their patriotism. In manv instances malice and preju dice has crept into the a.l ance and instead of cultivating the'better elements of the human passions these baser qu il ities are lx>ing worked for all they are worth.
