HIS MONTHLY TALK WITH THE GEORGIA FARMERS On Subjects of General Interest Per taining to tiie Farm and Garden—Good Advice. The month of July, on the well con ducted Georgia farm, means Borne little let up in the nard struggle necessary in the months of May and Juue. Except In the more northern counties, the crop* should have received their last work ing: the grain crops should have been Weil harvested, and barring a field here and there, which, from unexpected causes, has gotten a little behind, we can afford to give our plows a "leave of absence" from the cultivated crops. If tire COTTON is in good growing condition, taking on fruit rapidiy, a plow passed lightly over the surface might not do any apparent harm, but. all things considered, it would, perhaps, be best not to incur the risk. Any disturbance of the roots just now. particularly if the plowing should be followed by even a temporary drought, causes loss of fruit, and while such plowing may cause the plant to take on a new growth and develop new fruit, it is beater to persue a system of cultivation which will retain and de velop, in the shortest time possible, the fruit already on the perhaps, plaut, than fuller to risk getting r la.er if, crop. Where tiie fruiting has been delayed by unfavorable weather or inability on the part of the farmer to give the necessary cultivation at the \n-oper time, thus allowing weeds and grass to spring up and struggle for supremacy, u plow snould Lie passed over the bind ns lightly as po.oiole. but in such a mau •' net as to kill out this foreign growth. Pulverize the soil and avoid root prun ing ana disturbance as far as may be. In the LAYING BY of both corn and cotton, the plowman snuuid endeavor, by a careful adjust ment of his p,ow.-.!ocii, to avoid auy in jury or mutiiatiou to the growing plants, 'j ake oif the long smgietree and suusti tuto a shorter one, of a stretcher placed between the traces, will answer a good purpose. The ordinary singletree, in tne iast woriiiug, will often break and *. si ruv a great many limbs, besides s fitnisly injuring the other parts of the piaius. Tiie greatest judgment and care is necessary at tuis critical period. One careless plowing now will much reduce the yieid and bring to naught previous intelligent and well considered tilans. All tue cultivation should have been carrij-J ou with a view «o leaving the land ab level and as friable as toe soil will admit. Even the lauds tn.it are idle should be left as level us pomade. In order to best understand how to plow and wutu to plow, we must first understu-d WHY WE TLOW, “One of my customers came in to tiny and asked me for the l»e8t eough medi cine I hud says Lew Young a prominent druggist of Newman Grove, Neb, “Of course I allowed him (Jhainberlain.s Cough Remedy, and he did not ask to sec any other.
