KLLAVILLE GEORGIA, THURSDAY EVENING MARCH. 8 1894. A Model Community. A few years ago Wigginsveile was sy nom.mmis with lawlessness and bad an unsavory reputation all over the county Tts grog shops were liberally patronized and the place was the scene of many mid night carousals, hut now all is changed. The Vampire that robl>ed the community of its good name and made drunkards of her sous, has been stamped out and the place has taken a stand second to no com miinity in intelligence and morality. With the old order of things the name passed away and the place is now called Doyle in honor of the lovely and accom pished wife of Mr.Joe Rogers, this being her middle name. Mr. Rogers has built a beautiful home here, and has extensive farming interests, his magnificent crops along the railroad have attracted no little attention. He also has a large mercan tile business and is known as one of the most progressive and prosperous men iu this section. Perhaps no one deserves more credit for the improved state of af fairs than Mr. J M Persons who encour ages every thing, that is f#r the upbuilding of his neighborhood. He has an able champion in Prof. J M Collum the Goun ty School Commissioner of Schley. Mr Collum, is ail up to date teacher and is principal of the Doyle High School. He is thoroughly in love with his work, which accounts for his great success. His school averages 03 as bright and interes ing boys sub girls as can be found in Geo l gia. Miss Lula Bachanan of Beuna Vis teachesa music class in connection with ihe school, and <s giving perfect satisfac tion. She has ten pupils making line progress. Large size 50c, and l.QO Co*operation In Town Building. There is no viilage, town or city but that has an ambition to develop into a manufacturing center. There are but few that realize their ambition. In tins day of sharp competition that cheap com modity called “oliiu music” goes but a short distance in attrateting capital and inducing the location of manufacturing industries. A locution must possessex traordinary natural advantages in the way of power, fuel supply, transport* uf Ia "' ■'•*‘« ri “ 1 to induce a. manufacturing concern to 6ee k ^ without some effort on the part of its citizens. In most cases a cash bo Se Tk generally the most liberal offer secures the enterprise. The demands of the promoters of these enterprises are often au exorbitant that they cannot be profitably met. Thou sands have been donated to corporations tinitesimal. Tiie remedy for this is in co-operative manufacturing investment. Every community has sufficient idle ca • ital among its people to equip and main tain manufactories which will be bo: i profitable to the investor and advanta geous to the community. For instance, the people determine that a paper mill, cannery, starch factory or any of the hundreds of different branches of manufacture now carried on in tl * stateacmlld i K . B , 10ces , fl ,||v ta ined in their town. A neeting should be called, an incorporation formed, the cost of the plant ascertained and books for the subscription of stock opened. The price of shares should be placed sufficient ly low to allow persons of moderate means to become stockholders, as often tiiis class of persons are the most pro gressive citizens a community affords. Only those in whom the community has the fullest confidence should be put at the head of the movement. When all the stock is sold and the venture estab lished. it will only require good business methods to make it a success-financiully and otherwise. After one industry is established and made a success others will follow. The only matter to be de cided is the nature of the industry that is adapted to the locality, and when this is ‘lone go to work and establish it.
