Stand and cultivation throughout the state only fair, the excessive rains and cool weather during May having work ed some injury to the plants. The stand is materially injured on the gray land whore it was worked before the reoent cool weather. Let ua hope, however, that a few hot days will bring about a great improvement in this crop. Con dition, compared to an average, 83 1-2. CORN. Corn is small for the season through out the state, but the stands and condi tion are good. The cool weather during May has given it a yellow color, but it only needs some warm sunshine to give it the proper color and start it to grow ing. If the state should be blessed with seasonable rains for the next two months, Georgia will raise the largest crop of corn in her history. Condition compared to an average. 94. POTATOES. Potatoes, both Irish and sweet, are promising flue yields. The former of these crops is already maturing and furnishing wholesome and palatable food for our people. The prospective yield of Irish potatoes is 95 per cent. The acreage in sweet potatoes, com pared to an average, is 95 1-2. MELONS. The acreage is nearly tho same as last year. The condition is not so good, as they have been retarded in their growth by cool weather, and in some cases injured by bugs. PEANUTS. A large crop of these nuts have been planted, the acreage being above that of last year. TOBACCO. The acreage is not quite as large ns last year. The condition, compared to an average, is 89 per cent, 46 per cent transplanted. HOGS AND CATTLE. There i9 some reports of diseases among the stock throughout the state, especially cholera among the hogs, but as yet it is not general or very fatal. It is very gratifying to note the large per centage of farmers who have a fall supply of corn and hay now on hand. Let us hope that this is an indication of th f i beginning of a new era in our good old srate, and that the day is near at hand when Georgia will cease to im port food for man or beast from any other state in the Union. AMMONIATED COPPER CARBONATE. Copper carbonate, 1 ounce; Ammo nia, enough to dissolve the copper; wa ter, 9 gallons. T ie copper carbonate is best dis solved in large bottles, where it will keep in Infinitely, and it should be di nted With water as required. For the -same purposes iv bordeaux mixture. FORMULAS—COPPER SULPHA IK SOLUTION. Copper sulphate, !• pound. Water, 15 gallons. Dissolve the copper sulphate in tho water when it is ready lor use. This should never ba applied to foliage, but must be used before the buds break. For peaches and nectarines use 25 gal Ions of water. For fungous disease*. PARIS GRKE.V. Paris green, 1 pound. Water, 200 300 gallons. It this mixture is to be used on peach trees, 1 pound of quick lime should bo added. Repeated applications will in jure most foliage unless lime is added. Paris gryeu and Bordeaux mixture can bo applied together with perfect safety. Use at the rate of 4 ounces of the arson ites to 50 gallons of the mixture. The action of neither is weakened, and the Paris green loses all caustic properties. For insects which chew. LONDON PURPLE This is used in the same proportion as Paris green, but as it is more caustic it should be applied with two or three times its weight of lime, or with the Bordeaux mixture. The composition of London purple is exceedingly varia ble, and unless good reasons exist for supposing that it contains as much ar senic as Paris green, use the latter pois on. Do not use Loudon purple on peach or pluin trees unless considera ble lime is added. For iusect3 which chew. ITF.LLBBORE. Fresh white hellebore, 1 ounce. Water, 3 gallons. Apply when thoroughly mixed. This poiscu is not so energetic as the ar'son ites and may bo used a short time be fore the sprayed portions mature. For insects which chew. keuosi:ne emulsion. Hard soap, 1-2- pound. Boiling water, 1 gallon. Kerosene, 2 gallons. Dissolve the soap in the water, add the kerosene and churn with a pump for 5-10 minutes. Dilute 10 to 25 times before applying. Use strong emulsion for all scale insects. For insects which suck, as plant lice, mealy bugs, red spider, thirps, bark lice or scale. Cab bage worms, currant worms and all in sects which have soft bodies can also be successfully treated. BORDEAUX MIXTURE. Copper sulphate, 6 pounds. Quick liine, 4 pounds. Water, 40 to 50 gallons. Dissolve the copper sulphate by put ting it in a bag of coarse cloth and hanging this in a vessel holding at least 4 gallons, so that it is just covered by the water. Use an earthen or wooden vessel. Shake the lime in an equal amount of water. Then mix the two and add enough water to make 40 gal lons. It is then ready for immediate use but will keep indefinitely. If the mixture is to be used on peach foliage it is advisable to add an extra pound of liras to the above formula. When ap plied to such plants as carnations or cabbages it will adhere better if about a pound of hard soap be dissolved in hot water and add.^d .to the mixture. 12 days later; 10 to 14 days later, bor deaux again, 10 to 14 days later, bor deaux again.
