The Time To Dig Potatoes. From the Albany Herald we clip the following which may be of interest tothir farmers in this section. It seems fthat Mr Hornady has not forgotten the valua ble lessons learned “down on the farm’*. This >s his wav of saving potatoes. ,‘VVant an item?” asked Mr. W, P. Hornady of » Herald reprrter yesterday mormng. ‘•Herts two of them if l can get them.**' “I want to tell you something that will be of interest to the farmers and others of this section, • 1 - Mr. Hornrdy continued. *’lt is a wdl known fact, I tielieve. that thousands and thou sands of bushels of sweet potatoes an lost every year from rot. On our place, up in Schley county, we used to grow potatoes quite extensively, ana during i.lie maov years of mv experience on the farm I experimented with them in all kinds of ways. Some years our potatoes would rot, afterbeing banked, and some year- they wou idn‘ t.It appeared strange lo me and I began to study the matter vs a res It of my investigations Icatne to learn the exact time to dig and bank potatoes, and we never lost any more of them. It is this wav: Ho into the patch i ud dig a potato. Take your knife and cut t in two and vi u will see that ihe usua milky substance comes front the sucu ent vegetable. Lay the potato away •for a night, if this milky matter turns black’ let your potatoes alone. If it remains white, dig the potatoes and bank them. It naver fails, and if this plan is caried out I ll guarantee that no* a single potato will rot. This may appear si range, but it.s a fact •• Mr.HornaJys suggestion is agood one. and those persons who contemplate storing away potatoes wotrld do well to consider what he has learned by long yt ars of expeienee.
