In almost every line—especially in cotton, rice, corn wheat, peas and potatoes—the yield promises to be full and the market bet ter than for some years. Added to this ia the fact that the farmers are less in debt than they have been for a quarter of a century. The proceeds from their crops, therefore, wdl go into their pock ets or to swell their savings bank ac counts, and not to satisfy mortgages a id liens and open accounts for provis io is and supplies. The farmers have been learning and practicing close econ omy during the pest two or three years, and they find it profitable The cotton situation, according to so good an authority as A B Shepoerson, is especially encouraging. The statistical position he considei s the strongest, for tiie benefit of the producer, in seven years The visible supply of cotton in both Europe ana America is less than has been the case since 1890 The stock in this country is 108.000 hales less than last} ear, and the mils have in their warehouses very small holdings. A dastardly attempt was made to wreck a Central passenger train near Stewart's crossing four miles from Amer icus Saturday morning. Several cioss ties were placed on the track and fasten ed securely with heavy- grass ropes. The train was going at full speed, but the engineer saw the obstruction in time to prevent a disastrous wreck. Marshal Feagan of Americus was notified and went to the scene at once with his dogs hue they were unable to strike a trail as the villians had done their work early in the night.
