Columbus; W H McCrory. J J Mur ray. AN ABLE DISCOURSE. Rev Dr Hyde, the well known Presby terian divine, preached a line sermon at the Methodist church last Friday night to a large congregation. He gave a beautiful illustration of the exalted position of the church of God. and its controlling influence in the world, and pictured in glowing terms its final triumph over the forces of evil. Ai though there were many present who diil not agree with the learned Doctor in some of his views, there was much good in the sermon for each one present and it was a well pleased congregation. MARRIAGE AT SHELLMAN. Mr and Mrs C J Greene have issued invitations to the marriage of their daughter. Annie Lee Johns, to Mr Ben jamin Davidson, of Dawson. It will he a quiet home wedding occuring at 11,510 o clock October 19th. Mr Davidson is possessed of those qualities of character that contribute to the making of a mode | young man, and is in every way wort hv of the lovely and accomplished y Q ung girl he lias won. Both tii^- young people have a large circle of friends, and with these the News joins most heartily in invoking the choicest blessing of Heaven on their united lives. DISTRICT LEAGUE CONFERENCE. Will Meet at undrew Chapel Next Year. The delegates who represented Schley county at the League meeting in Daw son last week returned Monday. They speak enthusiastically of tlie warm hearted hospitality of the citizens of Dawson, and tlie great success of the meeting. Americus, Fort Gaines, Shell man and Andrew Chapel all asked for the next conference, but when the vote was taken Andrew Chapel won by a decisive majority. Tlie coming ot this body of earnest young workers into our midst will be of incalculable good and the whole county should feel interested in their entertainment. Miss Maymie Lee Stephens, of Putnam, is the Pleasant guest of Miss Claude Livingstone this week. Judge .1 H Guert-y, one of Dawson's promi nent citizens, was in Ellaville Tuesday on legal business. .Miss Nellie Wilkinson, who spent the summer in Troup county with her sister, Mrs T J Wil kerson, returned home Sunday. Mr and Mrs E B Hornady and bright little daughter, Minnie Diane, visited at the home of Mrs S E Hornady this week. Misses Nell Davis, Ma.iy Williamson, Julia Peacock; Messrs S M Callier, and S L Parish spent Thursday very pleasantly in Americus. Ed Bridges, who has been in Hie habit of spending his Sundays at Putnam, for some reason now extends his visits to Buena Vista. He was accompanied last Sabbath by Mr S C Collins. Hou E B Lewis was mingling with his many friends here yesterday, having come over for a social visit. Mr Lewis has hosts of enthusi astic Iricnds in Schley county, and lie is always warmly welcomed. Mr Lester Stewart return jd to his home in Ashburn Sunday, after a visit of a few days to relatives near Ebaville. Mr Womack formerly lived in Ellaville aiul leaves many relatives in the county. lie was a brother of Mrs Maria McCrory. When this place was selected as the county seat it was Mr Womack who suggested the name of Ellaville for the town.
