Experts Say Fruit Crop is Killed. Col. Marshall J. Hatcher is among those fruit growers who be lieve that the entire crop is killed, and although he never cries over spilt milk, it is only natural for him to feel a little blue over such a great loss to himself, as well as to the en tire community. Mr. T. (). Skellie, who is ally regarded as one of the best post ed men on fruit in the state, when seen by a reporter, said : I notice in the paper today that there will be a half crop of peaches. Now, there is no more possibility of our making a half or a fourth or a tenth of a crop of peaches than there is that the dead will rise to day. I read all the newspapers that I get hold of, and stand by peaches as long as any man on earth and hope for the best. But when the buds, dormant or blooming, are dead, they are dead. The good, old seedlings, that ‘they say’ have never failed since Adam took charge of the Garden of Eden— those that I have examined—are just as dead as any others. There is nothing like giving ‘facts,’ and if we don’t lose anything but the ac tual peach buds, many people, in cluding myself, will thank the good Lord. I will not misrepresent any thing intentionally, but you can rely absolutely on this, weather bu reau or no weather bureau.”—The Macon Telegraph. After the Grip—What?
