Ilaygood, the oldest Baptist minister in this state died at his home in Atlanta last Fri day. He oe< supied the pulpit in 14 states during his career as preacher. There have been several bales of cotton brought to town and sold in the last few days by farmers who have been bolding it for higher prices. They have lost from five to ten dollars per bale by holding it so long. Wo are in receipt of a copy .of of the Southern Industry, a mag azine published weekly at Now Orleans in the interest of the South and her industries. On the first page of this number appears the picture of Gov. A. D. Candler, of Georgia, one id' the foremost men of the south. j. The thing to do is pay up and con tinue taking it. We shall be very sorry to cut any name from our list. The Country Weekly and its Editor. The editor of the country week ly is sometimes a rather small potato, but more frequently he wields a powerful influence, and is an individual of acknowledged importance in the community where he lives and labors. Coun try weeklies, with rare exceptions, are faithful mirrors of the consti tuency they serve. Find a com munity where thrift, industry, public spirit and morality prevail, and the chances are that the week ly newspaper published there is « good one—live, clean,progressive, up-to-date and worthy of eonti dence. Occasionally exceptions only prove the rule. The country editor and the country newspaper are inst it utions of too long standing to be lightly laid on the shelf, and despite the enterprise of modern metropolitan newspapers and the facility of modern mails, they are with us for long years to come.—Albany Herald. Rosie William Thomp son, of Talking Rock, were in oQr town last week purchasing goods. W. L. Stewart and wife visited relatives at this place last Sunday. Several from this place attend ed singing at Jerusalem last Sun day. The farmers are getting behind with their work. There was a large congregation at the singing at tins place Iasi Sunday conducted by Messrs, Carter, Hales, Parker and Burton. John Pharr v 'sited relatives at this place last Sunday night. J. R. Faueett and wife visited relat ives at Jerusalem last Sunday. Ethel. The farmers arc working about thirteen hours a day now, trying to got all their corn in the ground at once. Lewis Thompson, Sr., of Jeru salem, spent- one day this week with friends and relatives of this place. I). B. Tolbert and family and John Anderson and family were the guests of Dr. Willingham Inst Sunday. Dr. Hambright, the dentist, of Adairsville, will lie in our town Wednesday April 17th. Lewis Stewart and wife, of Cherokee, spent last Sunday with relatives in our place. Several from here attended Sun day school at Hinton last Sunday forenoon. Sunday school was organized at this place last Sunday evening with about one hundred in attend ance, ami we know it will be a success this time for it is in the hands of two of bur most able men, George Hamrick and Dr. Willingham. There will be preaching at the Christian church here next Sun day conducted by Rev. Land. Let every body come to hear Gordon county Evangelist, Mrs. Jennie King, next Sunday. Dobbs, | I who with Judge Gobor, are sole proprietors, is now in full blast and turning out ice as pure ns crystal. It is manufactured by a new process and newly patched machine that is capable of freez ing and turning out a block of one hundred pounds of ice every five minutes. It is said that it takes the old machinery of plants of other inventions a number of hours to accomplish this much. By this process it facilitates and cheapens the manufacture of ice and gives a bigger margin of profits. The factory here has a capacity of fifteen tons ■- per day, and will from now on manufac ture ice sufficient to supply the trade. The ice is of good quality and the plant a good one, with many conveniences tor handling product. A chute has been made that loads wagons easily.
