James Alexander Rhyne was born in Habersham county Geor November 27th 18*14. ami died at his home in' Jasper, Pick ens county Georgia, July 24th 1901. He left surviving him, wife, Mary Elizabeth Rhyne, and six • sons—John 11., Raster A., [ Willie Walter, Eugene, Cecil G., and Carl II.; all of whom are cel lent young men, industrioits in business, and devoted to homes. He was a zealous and consistent member of the Univer salis! church and had been a minister of that faith for many years; I ut, while he had a fixed belief in the tenets of his church, he was uniformly tolerant of the belief of others who did not agree with him. He was a Master Ala son; had been Worshipful Master of Pickens Star Lodge, and was :.n earnest member of the order, for thirty years. He was in the Confederate army and served as a Lieutenant in one of the companies of the 43rd Georgia Regiment. At the time of his death, he was Justice of the Peace for the Tow n District and was in the first year of his term. His life was pure; he lived void of offense toward all; was thoughtful and consider ate; a good neighbor; a good husband and father, and an exem plary, citizen. His life was full of sympathy for the sick and dis tressed, and he never failed to re spond to the demands of kindness and humanity; and in many homes, he will he remembered, and his memory will be cherished, for his ministrations to tiiose who suffered from disease and pain, often, though it might be, through the long mid anxious vigils oT the night, and when he was i 11 pain himself. Expressions of tribute for such a man, should im press the living with the thought of the influence and glory of a good life, and that death can no more destroy good example than it can kill the soul. In the afternoon of July 25th, his remains were escorted to the grave in the cemetery at Jasper, by members of the Masonic Order, and there, in the presence of nis family and other relat ives, and a large gathering of the people who had known him in life, aud with the beautiful burial service of his order, were committed to the earth; and, as the exhausted rays of the setting sun, w ore cast across his mound, he was alone left in the gateway of the other lift*. “This Memory brightens o’er the past,, As when the sun, concealed Behind some cloud that near us hangs, Shines on a distant field.” Molina, Ga., July 29th 1901. Ret us hope nay let us know, that as he took his first step into the cold waters of the River of Rite, un| j t | ir ,, u „| 1 mist that shrouds the future from us, he caught a glimpse of the of her side, he saw nothing but brightness there, Again 1 tender you my heartfelt sympathy.
