Kiker is dangerous ly sick at her home near Refuge and all her children are at her bedside. Mr. R O. Hopkins, who was hurt in a recent automobile ac cident, is r,ow able to knock around town. i We have printed the minutes of the Jasper Baptist Association this week and hope to get same bound up and mailed to the dif ferent churches next week, Mr. Will Richards sold the Joe Lively place near Harmony to Mr. Tom Ingram, of Dawson county, this week. Mr. Ingram is one of Dawson county’s best citizens and we are glad to have him as a citizen of Pickens. Mr. John Dilbeok returned last Friday from the Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta, where he was operated on for appendicitis weak before last. His many friends are glad to see him re covering so rapidly. Friday night an automobile occupied by Sanford Mullinax and a son of Mr. Eddie Johnson ran into a buggy driven by Mr Edward Patterson. Nobody was hurt and the boys have had the damage to the buggy repaired. Representative E. Wheeler will leave Saturday to join a legislative committee investi gating convict camps in South Georgia. The counties to be visited are Decatur, Mitchell, Miller, Earley, Baker and Semi nole. Members of the commit tee are Sen. C. F. Owen, of Lili iay, chairman; Rep. O. P. Mil ton, of Ellijav; Rep R- S. Tal madge, of Monticello, and Rep. E. Wheeler, of Jasper. The friends of Clay West brook were .glad to see him out in town this week. It will be re membered that a short time since he stumbled and fell on a saw which sawed the knuckle of the elbow off. He was carried to Atlanta where the bone was grafted on and the indications are that he will not have a stiff arm. This is the same arm that was broken several months since by a Ford crank. Stipp has returned after having been at work Florida for sometime. County School Superintend Compton will soon start the erection of a cottage on his lot on the highway. Mr. Clatk Emery of near Westbrooks,is having a sale next Saturday and will move immed iately to Florida. Keener Bell, federal prohi bition agent until recently sta tioned at Copperhill, has been transferred to Blairsville. Mr. Ed Duncan will sell his household and kitchen furniture at auction Saturday. He has not definitely decided where he will move to. but he will prob ably go to Atlanta. The Jasper Woman’s Club en tertained 'Tuesday evening in honor the teachers of Jasper High School. Those present were the members of the club, the teachers and trustees, and their farniles. Refreshments were served and all present greatly enjoyed the occasion. Mr. FI. E. Hawkins has pur chased the Poole plgce at the foot of Sharptop mountain and has had it surveyed into acr« tots which he will offer the pub lic at reasonable prices. He will also have log cabins erected on some of these lots. They face the Old Burnt Mountain road and have a splendid view of Sharptop, Burnt Mountain and several other peaks of the Ami calola chain. Rev, E. C. Spence, of near Nel son, was in our office Saturday and had us to send the Progress to Mr. O. O. Moore, Keene, Tex., an old friend of his father. Mr. Moore was raised in this section, but went West about fifty-live years ago and has not come back for a single visit. Sometime ago he wrote Mr. Spence’s father, a boyish chum, but the latter was dead and the letter fell in the hands of his son, who answered and a correspondence followed. Among the questions asked by Mr. Moore were: “Is John Nel son's gun shop still running,’’and “where does the railroad run?" Colton was quoted at Jasper Thursday at 19 1-2 cents. Mr Ed Wheeler lost a 350 ,1b. hog by death last week. Miss Lois McClain had as hei guests for the week-end Miss Beulah Davidson, of Tate, and Miss Frances Turner, of Atlanta The friends of Mrs. Milton Cross, of Jerusalem, will be glad to learn that she is recovering from an operation at tie Baptist Hospital in Atlanta. There will be choir practice at the Baptist church Friday night at 7:30 o’clock. A cordial invi tation is extended to the genera! public. Mrs. B. E. McCollum enter tained last J hursday evening in honor of Miss Mary Gienr Thompson, of Holly Springs- A delicious salad and swed course was served. W. Henderson will be glad U learn that she is recovering from a fall she received several weeks since Mrs, W. T. Hall lias rt tin ned to her home in Graham, N C., after spending sometime with her parents, Mr. and M's- J. F. Sim mons. Miss Josie’Kuykendall and Mr Weldon Heath, both of Marble Hill, were quietly married at the court house Thursday by Ordi nary Westbrook. Some unknown parties stole a team of mules out of Mr. O. G. Dorsey’s stable,near the Pickens and Cherokee line, one night re cently. Mr. Hammontreo in formed us that he was still grub bing on the proposed new road up Burnt Mountain. Mr. Ham montree may not realize it now, but he is paving the way fororu of the greatest developments in this section. When the top oi Burnt Mountain is put w ithin tjnee hours of Atlanta it will be changed from a n isolated section to one of the most, pros perous communities of Pickens. This mountain is over 30 .0 feet high and is considered one of the prettiest natural scenes east of the Mississippi.
