Learn about local ministry’s outreach to the Philippines Pastor Joe Betts (center) and his wife Virginia, (far right) on a previous mission trip to the Philippines. Holy Spirit Ranch Min istries, which has been based in Jasper for many years, in vites the community on Oc tober 24 to learn about their recent work on several proj ects and to support an excit ing new venture in the Philippines. The program will be held at Cornerstone Church on Camp Road on October 24th beginning at 6 p.m. Pastor Joseph Betts, founder of Holy Spirit Ranch Ministries, will present a half-hour program on the re cent and upcoming work of the ministry. There will be one song and then a Power- point presentation from Betts. Holy Spirit Ranch has faithfully operated a weekly street ministry in Atlanta feeding and providing for other needs of homeless peo ple for seven and half years without missing a week [they partner with the Progress for a yearly coat drive]. They have also operated a dental clinic and regular mission trips to the Lakota people on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, making 18 different mission trips there. On October 24th, Betts wants to share some exciting developments with their mis sion work in the Philippines, where they have opened a permanent headquarters with local personnel. In January they will return to the Philip pines for a gospel trip that will include food outreach, medical and dental missions to poverty-filled areas of Manilla and the surrounding the area. “Our motto is taking Jesus to the least among us and they have 586 slums in Manilla, so we are going to the least among us with Jesus, food, prayer healing and a medical mission. In the Philippines, they are very open to the love that we bring and the gospel. We are ex cited about having a perma nent base there now and what we can accomplish. I hope that members of the commu nity will give us a chance to share our work.” The brief program will be followed by “classic South ern food” and a time to so cialize. Betts said, “We know that people are busy, so we are tailoring this program to last for only 30 minutes with food and socializing af terwards for people who want to stay longer and talk or hear more from us.” Holy Spirit Ranch thanks Cornerstone Church for al lowing them to use their fa cility for this program. For questions call Joe Betts at 770-8260202 or his wife Virginia, 770-826-0203 or e-mail holyspiritranch@gmail.com. Find out more by looking at the ministry’s Facebook page, search Holy Spirit Ranch. THURSDAY. OCTOBER 10, 2019 PICKENS COUNTY PROGRESS PAGE 9B Cornerstone Church completes Acts series this Sunday Submitted by Ron Rucker The book of ACTS of the Apostles is a detail investiga tive eyewitness account of the lives of the Apostles and the spread of Christianity throughout the known world. This Sunday is the last mes sage in our study in Acts. Paul is on his way to Rome with a promise from Jesus that he will testify of the Lord before Rome. Such calm as surance Paul shows during a shipwreck, a snake bite and pending death. How do you live in this world facing whatever is next? This will be my last mes sage until December 8th. I will be having open chest heart surgery on October 17th and during my absence Dr. Charles Sineath will preach the first three weeks and Josh Sheets the next four weeks. I hope to be back at church the four Sundays that Josh preaches. Wow. I didn’t see this coming. To this moment, I feel great, 72 years old, working every day, high blood pressure but never a pain or shortness of breath. However, the CT shows poor circulation to the heart and the heart cath showed that a four bypass procedure would serve me better. The surgeon said: “You are too healthy and too young. You will be better served with a bypass procedure.” All that time he is talking, I am thinking pain in recovery. How do they think the word procedure sounds better than surgery? Well, let's hope this Sun day’s message rubs off on me a little. The calm assurance part for sure. One thing I have come to realize there are situations in life, that you can never see coming. I could make a long list but you have your own list. There is only one hope and that hope is in Christ Jesus. Circumstances are real and we all are living in a circumstance right now. We must face these. Also, is my circumstance a conse quence of something that I have done? The doctor says “No.’’"You got the bad DNA." You may be living in a consequence of your own making. If so, Christ can change your consequence into a circumstance. If you want to know more about that be with us this Sunday. We are located 1/2 mile west of Roper Park off Camp Rd. on Cornerstone Dr. You can watch us on Facebook at cornerstone church of jasper Men’s group welcomes new members and guests Open membership and no reservations required includ ing your guests for celebrat ing transformed lives. For over 20 years the North Georgia Men's Christian Fel lowship (NGMCF) continues to encourage men to come out of their homes and churches where together we are stronger. The NGMCF meets the second Saturday monthly, 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Georgia Mountains Hos pice Hwy, 53E at Good Samaritan Hwy., to enjoy a southern breakfast, praise music, prayer and to hear a testimony of God's grace changing a life from lost to found. Saturday, October 12th, please attend, bring a guest and join in a celebration of changed lives through Christ and witness men accepting the Savior for the first time. Per Christian author Alan Chambers, "What’s our Mis sion? It's not to fix people. It's to point them to Jesus. He's the one who changes people's hearts and lives." Wayne Blair, a NGMCF member, Georgia Highland participant, and Mt. Zion at tendee will give his testi mony to the miracle of Jesus in his life. Jamie Hunter, NGMCF brother, Alliance Church member, talented musician vocalist and song writer will lead us in praise music. A blessed celebration awaits all attending. Call 770-893-8595 with any questions.. Another question, "How Blessed can we be?" Don't miss it. See you there.
