Wild Berries
and Flowers
A bouquet of cut flowers
usually does not last many
days. However, Lynn gave
me a bouquet two weeks ago
that are still lovely! I, of
course, have cut off the stems
and rearranged them daily,
throwing away the ones that
look bad.
We have a honeysuckle
vine growing here at the res
idence and since I can walk
around outside, I keep an eye
on the flowers that are grow
ing. This honeysuckle vine
has very small blossoms that
smell so sweet. I plan to clip
some of them and bring them
into my room so I can smell
the sweet fragrance.
The blackberries are in
full bloom also. I was kid
ding around to some of my
friends that I was going to
pick some of them when they
get ripe and make a black
berry cobbler. Yum Yum!
How long since you saw a
dewberry? We used to have a
big patch of them. They had
to grow on a vine real close
enforcement officer, or live
or work in a long-term care
facility, you may now receive
free testing provided by pub
lic health at one of three lo
cations in north Georgia.
Public health is assisting
in free COVID-19 testing at
sites in Cherokee, Gilmer and
Whitfield counties.

to the ground. They were so
good to eat! Huckleberries
were something else. They
grew close to the ground like
the dewberry but they grew
on a bush. Then there was the
bearberry. I only knew of one
place where they grew. They
grew on a bush and were
very good to eat fresh. The
only thing I knew them to be
used for was flavoring chew
ing gum and just eating for a
snack. They grew over on
Jones Mountain / Yukon
Road where the settlement
called Teaberry Ridge is lo
cated.
Do you remember Lo
cust? They were very
strange. They grew on a tall
tree and were in the shape of
a banana in length and curve.
However, they were as flat as
could be and dark, dark
brown in color. Split them
open and they were sticky
and sweet. The cows ate
them. That’s all I ever knew
them to be used for. It speaks
in the Bible of Locust and
wild honey. These were some
of the unusual things that
seem to be getting lost in the
passing of time.
