JUNE 2. 2022 PICKENS COUNTY PROGRESS PAGE 7A Damaris Landaverde, public health nurse in Pickens, receives Maggie Kline Nursing Award Damaris Landaverde, RN, public health nurse for the Pickens County Health De partment, was presented with the Maggie Kline Nursing Award by the Georgia Public Health Association (GPHA) at their annual conference held recently at Jekyll Island. The award honors Maggie Kline who for years coordi nated the continuing educa tion program for public health nurses in Georgia. GPHA annually presents the award to recognize a new public health nurse or a pub lic health nurse specialist who exceptionally fulfills the nursing role in service deliv ery to public health clients and families. The Pickens County Health Department and North Georgia Health Dis trict are proud to affirm that Ms. Damaris is a truly de serving recipient of this year’s award and congratu late her for this honor. The GPHA award biogra phy that was included in the Maggie Kline Nursing Award presentation stated: Damaris Landaverde began her nursing career in August 2021 at the Pickens County Health Department shortly after completing Nursing School. Prior to at tending nursing school Damaris worked within the WIC program for Public Health. Damaris is a new nurse with the drive and desire to become a well-trained public health nurse and if the first six months of her nursing ca reer is any indication as to what she will be able to ac complish over the years to come, Public Health will be blessed to have her as part of the Public Health Nursing Section. The Club requested nom inations by the teachers for students in each grade that best displayed the following while a student this year at PJHS to be included in the 2022 Legion of Character: 1) being courteous and truthful 2) being recognized by peers for a positive out look and general optimism 3) being help fid to other stu dents and to faculty 4) con tributing to good discipline and study habits in their classes 5) encouraging oth ers and congratulating them on their successes 6) work ing steadily to improve themselves and others 7) having generally done their best while at PCHS 8) being trustworthy by practicing honesty, keeping promises, and following through on commitments 8) doing what is right even when it is diffi cult 9) showing respect by treating others the way that they want to be treated 10) being on the active role of the school as a full time stu dent 11) accepting respon sibility for their own actions.
