ATLANTA - The last fis
cal year was another record-
setter for the film industry in
Georgia.
Film and television pro
ductions spent $4.4 billion in
the Peach State in fiscal
2022, which ended June 30,
Gov. Brian Kemp announced
Monday. That’s up from the
previous record of $4 billion
set in fiscal 2021.
Georgia hosted 412 pro
ductions in the last fiscal
year, including 32 feature
films, 36 independent films,
269 television and episodic
productions, 42 commer
cials, and 33 music videos,
according to the Georgia
Film Office, which promotes
and markets the industry in
the state.
"When the pandemic
struck, we worked hard in
Georgia to communicate
with our partners in the
Georgia film, TV, and
streaming industries,” Kemp
said.
“Together, we forged a
safe and appropriate path to
allow the film industry to re
turn to operations and deliver
Georgia Made productions to
eager consumers all around
the world - even when some
states continued to stay shut
down and stifle the industry's
return to normalcy.”
Movies filmed in Georgia
claimed four of the top six
spots for highest domestic
grossing movies: "Avengers:
Endgame" (No. 2), "Spider-
Man: No Way Home" (3),
"Black Panther" (5), and
"Avengers: Infinity War" (6).
Streaming episodic and
limited-series programming
continued to choose Georgia
for hit programming, includ
ing Season Four of Netflix’s
"Stranger Things," Netflix
hit "Ozark," HBO Max’s
"The Staircase," Disney+’s
"Loki" and FX’s "Atlanta."
The various productions
are being accompanied by
the construction of studio
complexes. Reynolds Capital
is investing $60 million in
Athena Studios, a new
soundstage development in
Athens.
Cinelease Studios-Three
Ring has broken ground on a
$144 million studio expan
sion in Covington, and Cap
stone South Properties and
Domain Capital Group are
building the world’s first
ground-up, LEED Gold-cer
tified film and TV studio
campus in Stone Mountain.
While developing the for
mer Doraville GM site, Gray
Television recently an
nounced a new partnership
with NBCUniversal Media
(NBCU) to lease property for
content creation as well as
manage all production facil
ities, including Gray’s stu
dios.
The largest studio-based
equipment company in the
world for film, television,
and events, MBS Equipment
Company (MBSE), opened
their new East Coast head
quarters at Trilith Studios in
Fayette County last fall.
"It’s very gratifying to see
the continued commitment to
Georgia’s film industry
through local investment in
soundstages, support serv
ices companies, and educa
tional programs throughout
the state," said Lee Thomas,
director of the Georgia Film
Office. "We send a big
thanks to the companies who
have invested here and the
communities that work so
hard to make films dreams a
reality for their local resi
dents and economy."

tn 1933, a Civilian Con
servation Corps camp was
built on Colonel Sam Tate's
10,000-acre Tate Mountain
Estates.
According to the Pickens
Progress at that time, It was
the first camp in the state to
get started on its forestry
work.
The primary reason for its
early start was because of its
leadership. The Camp Super
intendent, Eber Carle Perrow,
had already surveyed the vast
majority of Col. Tate's lands
and knew the mountains and
forests of his estates inti
mately.
For just under a year, the
men at Camp Langley -
named after a deceased
C.C.C. man who died in
training, built roads within
Tate Mountain Estates (in
cluding the main road up
Hendrix and Big Stump
Mountains, and several oth
ers, made the fire tower on
what is presently named
Monument Road, and built
various fire brakes to prevent
the spread of fires.
When the men weren’t
busy with forestry work, they
would routinely engage in
extracurricular activities with
ladies from Tate, Jasper, and
Marble City at dances, box
suppers, while hosting live
music performances. Their
short stay in our county was
both beneficial and memo
rable.
They were discharged for
mally on June 30,1934. They
had originally been sched
uled for six months here but
stayed a full year.

Pickens Historical Society invites public
for talk at Pendley Creek Brewing
Robert Scott Davis, Jr.
will be speaking at the
Pendley Creek Brewing
Company on August 25th at
7 p.m. on the subject of An
drew Pickens and his in
volvement with the Treaty
of Long Swamp. This was
likely made on lands near
present-day Ball Ground.
The talk is the second in
a series of talk hosted by
the Pickens Historical Soci
ety at the brewery. The in
formal talks are free and
planned as both a fun and
educational evening, mak
ing local history accessible
to all.
Davis, has more than
1,000 publications dealing
with genealogy, history,
records, and research, most
of which deal with the state
of Georgia (USA) in some
form or fashion.
He has been widely
quoted by or appeared in
CNN, Time, Smithsonian,
Newsweek, the Wall Street
Journal, and elsewhere. His
work has received awards
from the American Associ
ation for State and Local
History; the Sons of the
American Revolution; and
the National Genealogical
Society. He is a graduate of
Piedmont College, North
Georgia State College and
University, and the Univer
sity of Alabama in Birm
ingham.
Raised in Forest Park,
Georgia, Bob is the son of
the late Robert Scott Davis,
Sr. (b. Gainesville, Ga.) and
Elizabeth Kathleen Holbert
(b. Jasper, Ga.)
His work owes every
thing to his being encour
aged and inspired by
history teachers including
Ted Key, later a Georgia
teacher of the year. He first
began his writing in 1974
when, as a cadet at then
North Georgia College, he
worked as Georgia's first
history state intern and had
been assigned the project of
putting together an histori
cal site survey on the little
known Kettle Creek Revolu
tionary War battlefield.
Despite the many hun
dreds of topics he has since
explored, he always returns
to that singular event and has
used it in his most recent and
important book, a collection
of essays on Americans who
supported the King during
the American Revolution.
Robert S. Davis, lives in
Blountsville, Alabama.
The Pickens Historical
Society welcomes everyone
for this fun an educational
evening.
