Greetings!
I could not be prouder to share with our community that Piedmont
Mountainside Hospital was recently awarded with our 16th consecutive “A”
Hospital Safety Grade by The Leapfrog Group. What does this mean for you?
You can be assured that Piedmont Mountainside is reviewed twice per year
by a national, independent, nonprofit organization that is driving a movement
for giant leaps for patient safety. And, Mountainside is one of only 20 hospitals
in the country to be awarded an “A” in every Hospital Safety Grade cycle since
2012, and the only hospital in Georgia to have reached the longevity of 16
cycles with an “A” grade.
The Leapfrog Group assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to all general
hospitals across the country based on over 30 national performance measures
reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems hospitals
have in place to prevent harm. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only
hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical
errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully
transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the
fall and spring.
According to The Leapfrog Group website, the Safety Grade is the gold
standard measure of patient safety, cited in MSNBC, The New York Times,
and AARP The Magazine.
The fact that we have received 16 consecutive ‘A’ safety grades since 2015 is
a testament to the level of commitment to patient safety and quality care by
our physicians and staff. On behalf of our physicians and staff, I am honored
to receive this recognition from the Leapfrog Group and proud to lead the state
with the most consecutive ‘A’ grades of any hospital in Georgia.

Safety Grades scoring methodology, visit hospitalsafetygrade.org.
