This program features
biblical, Christ-centered
teaching that focuses on grief
topics associated with the
death of a loved one. The
DVD seminar features na
tionally respected grief ex
perts and real-life stories,
followed by a small-group
discussion about what was
viewed. Past participants
have related how helpful the
information and discussions
were to them.
Many grieving people
find they are only beginning
the work of healing when
friends or family have re
turned to their daily life rou
tines. Too often people,
including Christians, tend to
stuff their grief instead of al
lowing it to do the God-given
work for which it is intended.
Don’t allow fear of what oth
ers may think keep you from
what could help you. Confi
dentiality is very much a part
of this program.
Your bereavement experi
ence may be recent or not so
recent. You will find encour
agement, comfort and help in
grieving the death of a
spouse, child, parent, sibling,
other family member, or
friend.
No matter what the cause
of your loved one’s death,
this is an opportunity to be
around people who under
stand what you are feeling.
King of Kings Plans for GriefShare Support Seminar beginning June 4.
You will learn how to recog
nize the symptoms of being
stuck in grief or in bondage
to certain emotions. You will
learn valuable information
about facing your new nor
mal in life and renewing your
hope for the future.
Anyone who is experienc
ing grief is invited to join in
the support group at any
time. Directions: King of
Kings is located off the west

Requiem for
Illustrious Men
By Ben Mock
On July 1, 1862, then
Commander-In-Chief
Abraham Lincoln called
for additional volunteers
to bolster federal forces in
the war against the Con
federacy. A song was writ
ten and performed across
the Union to promote the
effort, "We Are Coming,
Father Abra’am." Among
its lyrics: “From Missis
sippi's winding stream
and from New England's
shore, we leave our plows
and workshops, our wives
and children dear, with
hearts too full for utter
ance, with but a silent
tear. We dare not look be
hind us but steadfastly be
fore. We are coming,
Father Abraham, three
hundred thousand more!
If you look up all our val
leys where the growing
harvests shine, you may
see our sturdy farmer
boys fast forming into
line. You have called us,
and we're coming by
Richmond's bloody tide,
to lay us down for free
dom's sake, our brothers'
bones beside.”
A scant year later,
many of the volunteers
rallied by this melody lay
beneath the bloodstained
Pennsylvania hills. On the
night before delivering “a
few appropriate remarks”
over their graves, Pres.
Lincoln was serenaded by
the Baltimore Glee Club
singing “We Are Com
ing.”
At the dedication of

Observe
the Sabbath
Then he said to them, ‘The Sabbath was made for man,
not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord
even of the Sabbath.’
Mark 2:27-28
Even God had to rest after six days of labor, and the observance of the Sabbath, besides
commemorating that day of divine rest, is instituted to give all who labor a rest from their toil.
Notice how in the formulation from Exodus, the requirement is extended even to one’s
servants and animals: “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor
and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not
do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your
animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns.” (Exodus 20:8-10) For those of us who are
inclined to work seven days a week, this is surely a good rule. Everyone needs rest, and with
work taken out of the picture we have time to worship, time to spend with family and friends,
and time to recharge life’s batteries. Throughout the Old Testament, we see unequivocal
statements commanding us to observe the Sabbath, with plenty of warnings from the prophets
if we don’t. In the New Testament, however, we see a loosening of the particular rules
governing the Sabbath, in essence saying that the Sabbath was instituted for us and should be
observed as each person or church sees fit.
