Extension Pickens County
The Pickens County Ex
tension Office needs your
help in gathering data on the
agricultural commodities
produced in Pickens County.
Each year, every county
in Georgia compiles a list of
all the agricultural products
produced in their county.
These numbers make up
what is called the Farm Gate
Value Report. These num
bers are very important to see
the value agriculture has in
our state and to provide cru
cial support for the industry.
Agriculture accounts for
nearly $14.7 billion in the
Georgia economy. The top
commodity in the state is
broiler production at $4.2
billion.
Pickens County does its
share of contributing to the
farm values in the state. In
2021, the agriculture value of
the county was estimated to
be over $42 million. The top
commodities produced were
broilers, beef cattle, and lay-

ers. There are over 400 jobs
in Pickens County directly
related to agriculture, with a
total economic output of
over $80 million. The total
number of farms in the
county is in the 115-200
range.
It is important to continue
to report these numbers each
year. If you are a producer of
agricultural commodities for
profit, then we want to
know!
